Re: Century F-14 Jolly Roger

I would like that one....It's fairly subdued for a "showbird".....Love the teeth.

Re: Century F-14 Jolly Roger

i wouldn't mind it if some of the markings were like a dark grey, or even ivory. But yellow mixed with grey and black is too much.

Re: Century F-14 Jolly Roger

Hmmm, so is the Century Wing VF-101 supposed to be THAT F-14 because that one is an A, I thought the VF-101 Tomcat was going to be a B or D. Or are you just saying that it will be that scheme, or that the "disputed" Tomcat is that Tomcat . I think that that Tomcat was just painted up that way because it was going to a museum so it's just a repaint. That would explain the '101' number being on an A model Tomcat, with that scheme.

Re: Century F-14 Jolly Roger

All of VF-101's planes from 2002 and later had sharkmouths, even the low-vis ones.

They may have started using them even earlier, but no earlier than 1995/96. They "inherited" the sharkmouth from VF-111, and it first appeared on VF-101's "VF-111 commemorative" plane---which happened to be the first F-14 I ever saw.

Dobber--from what I can tell/gather the Century release will be an F-14B, with black tails, and the larger, later reaper. AD101, 163222, circa March 2004. But with all the variations---who knows at this point.

The F-14A we've been talking about--found it:

Bu No 162689.

1986 delivered
AD101 VF-101 jun-86 visited Trenton airshow
......... VF-41 mar-87 nov-87
AJ101 VF-41 aug-88 oct-88 cruise USS Theodore Roosevelt
AJ101 VF-41 sep-88 visited RAF Abingdon airshow static
AJ101 VF-41 oct-89
AJ101 VF-41 28-dec-90 26-jun-91 cruise USS Theodore Roosevelt Operation Desert Storm
AJ101 VF-41 feb-91 noseart "Queen of Spades"
AJ101 VF-41 sep-93 noseart "Bombcat"
AD167 VF-101 may-95 aug-95
AJ203 VF-14 jan-96 .......... cruise USS John F. Kennedy
AJ203 VF-14 29-apr-97 28-oct-97 cruise USS John F. Kennedy
AJ203 VF-14 feb-98 sep-98
......... VF-14 feb-99
AD265 VF-101 may-99 oct-00
AD101 VF-101 2002 special markings-- Black tail
AD101 VF-101 jun-02 preserved San Francisco IAP (CA) USCG
AD101 VF-101 oct-02 preserved USS Hornet USS Hornet Museum

It seems it was painted in those markings by VF-101 for the museum, and probably only wore them for a few days or weeks before being delivered. It never was a demo plane. (And that also explains the weird mix of high-vis and low-vis markings---they only repainted "what they needed to" for the museum)

You know, if Century just did the red-tailed B instead, we'd all know exactly what they planned on...
