Re: Century F-14 Jolly Roger

just been told another release for march is AJ 210 VF-84 NORMAL VERSION.
this and AJ 203 are release's i mentioned in an earlier post, these have been produced as demand for the first VF-84 jets was so high.
the VF-21 VERSION has been available since start of january in japan, they will get all releases first with the rest of us later as the distributers get organised.

Re: Century F-14 Jolly Roger

Ok, so is the bluer NF100 the "revised version"? (The NF101 pic looks like the samples we saw before). I like the lower greys on 100 but definitely think the greener-grey on NF101 is closer to most Tomcats. The upper color is officially a blue-grey, and it does sometimes look like that, but 90% of the time it looks green due to fading. And I'd still really like to see "non-flourescent" yellow used on the antenna bumps. They're tan on 99% of F-14's, the only "bright" yellow ones I've ever seen pics of are VF-154's, and they're not THAT bright.

The darker grey on the spine and tailfins looks more accurate to me, I think he switched from 36118 to 36081.

Zed--Yoshi might be interested in this pic: Look at the sides of the spine----the 36320 is cut off like VF-103 does, not like VF-2 and how the samples are. Also, look at the sponsons (the area between the h.stab and v.stab)---they are 35237, not 36320. While officially they should be painted how Century has them, they rarely are---way too many decal sheets etc show it that way, but they usually aren't. The area just outboard of the v.stabs should be the same color as the rest of the top of the fuselage on most low-vis F-14's. It's against regulations, but that's how they are.

Re: Century F-14 Jolly Roger

Is the upcoming April-released VF-101 an F-14A or F-14D? There should be some differences on the exterior between the two variants right?

Re: Century F-14 Jolly Roger

The VF-101 is expected to a be a B-model.

As for differences--Century has already done a better job on their VF-84 and VF-154 planes, than most hand-built award-winning model kits, accuracy-wise.

An F-14B would be identical to the VF-154 release from the tip of the nose back to the forward edge of the nozzle shrouds (slightly ahead of the rudders). From there back, it should be entirely different. (And that's the area most kits, and every diecast I've ever seen, screw up on)

No kidding? Do we have any details as to what marking they are going to use? because I'm pretty sure that the Grim Reapers had four types to choose fromwhen they were using the F-14B. I think there was two versions of the low viz markings, particularly on the tail (one with the tiny grim reaper which shared space with the AD markings, and then the later version which had the fullsize grim reaper on one tail, and then the AD markings, which were put on the oppisite side of each tail) And then you have the hi-vz markings with the red tails (although the placement of the markings were the same as the low-viz version) and then lastly you had the smallest version which had no grim reaper, but a lightning bolt version instead. If I'm not mistaken that version came first?

Anyway it'll be interesting to see which one they pick. Personally I'm hoping for the low-viz version with the fullsize grim reaper because I always saw one of those at the annual air and water show here in Chicago.
