Re: Century F-14 Jolly Roger

I really like the Reaper "bust" version that the D had, probably better than the "Winged" version, but they are both cool. Thanks Zed.

Re: Century F-14 Jolly Roger

if this mold is an improved version of fov tomcat, have the vertical stabilizers been correct? they looked somewhat skewed in the fov model.

nephilim---Define "skewed". Because F-14 tailfins do angle outward---most models don't have them angled ENOUGH. (And the Century ones don't IMHO)

Dobber---the B-model did wear the large bust-style reaper. Just because Airliners.net doesn't have a pic, doesn't mean it didn't happen. (Fencecheck and Alert5 are far better than Airliners.net for pics of military jets---they're just much much harder to search) Especially since all of VF-101's planes got the new style reaper, not just the show birds.

Here's AD101, the B-model, with the larger reaper:

Re: Century F-14 Jolly Roger

Very cool, Thanks David. Refresh my memory, was it the Ghostriders that had a grimreaper bust back in the 80's and the Grimreapers that had the full reaper? I cant remember, I just remember that 2 different squadrons had reapers on their Stabs.

Re: Century F-14 Jolly Roger

Ok, a quick search goes a long way! Yes VF-142 Ghostriders had the Reaper bust I REALLY liked. It's this one. I particularly love the lo-vis version one of my fav. low-vis markings. I'd LOVE Century to do this one but that probably won't happen.

Re: Century F-14 Jolly Roger

david- when i say skewed, i mean that the vertical tails seem bent upward on the fov model as seen in the picture. i'm just wondering if the century wings version has this

::edit:: Ok, then the tilted tailfin is a really weird inherent error that's just plain stupid that the factory didn't catch--or they just don't care.

Dobber----it always annoyed me that the Ghostriders never used their "true" logo, like on the squadron patch. And also that their F-14B's seemed to have never gotten even a drop of yellow paint. It's rare to see the Black Knight's black knight on their planes (but it's very cool), but from what I can tell the Ghostriders NEVER put their full ghostrider on their tails. Here's both the newer standard yellow patch, and the rarer red version:

Re: Century F-14 Jolly Roger

I have seen this raised or tilted tail in every picture of VF-154 FOV Tomcats I think it was a problem with the mold or the way it was assembled.
