| Re: The Official Begging for a Crusader Thread
Thanks for that link...check this shot from that site...flying with the wings folded!! I had heard of SPADS doing this for short times, but not the stubby-winged Crusader! ![]()

| Re: The Official Begging for a Crusader Thread At least with the F-8 I can understand making the mistake, I mean you'd have to turn around pretty far to see the wings, but the spad story I read about made no sense to me due to the fact that the wings would be blocking your peripheral view and depending on orientation and time of day...the sun! | |||||||||||||

Simply by how responsive HM has been to the collector base and how quickly they're bringing products to market. Century Wings Is still on their frist aircraft type (F-14 Tomcat). I sure would like to see this from CW though. You could rest assured that you'd get a carrier launch version.

| Re: The Official Begging for a Crusader Thread
That would absolutely be better than making one with an operating variable incidence wing, as you would normally never see an F-8 with the wing raised, without the flaps and leading edges extended.

| Re: The Official Begging for a Crusader Thread Yup yup, having two separate wings would be the best option, as there's just no way to make a wing that can both lower the flaps, and raise the wing. There is no flap handle in the F-8's cockpit, there is only the wing incidence lever. If the wing is up, the flaps are down. If the wing is down, the flaps are up. Too many kits etc include parts for one option but not the other--which makes both options wrong then. Wings can be folded in either position though. But the flaps are directly linked to the wing incidence. You could add working folding tips to either style of wing. A raising/lowering wing with raising/lowering flaps would be impossible, but having a "normal" wing and a "takeoff/landing configuration" wing would be great, and adding folding tips to either one would be even better. Or, best solution of all: Give us two wings in the box! Due to how it attaches, it is very easy to to just take off the whole wing, and replace it with the other one. Some kits even included provisions to do this (but none includes enough parts for 2 wings). But there's people who've bought two F-8 kits, and built two wings---then they just swap them around as they feel. It'd be little different than including 2 sets of landing gear parts (up and down)---we just want two wings. Especially as many F-8's don't even have any pylons on the wings. If the "default" one has the wing raised and the flaps lowered, adding a simple, single-piece wing with the flaps up would be fairly simple and cheap. Especially since there'd be no drop tanks, TARPS pod, or anything else much to include. The F-14 comes with a ton of extra bits besides the weapons and gear, but the F-8 would really only need an extra wing---one big "accessory" instead of many smaller ones. | |||||||||||||

| Re: The Official Begging for a Crusader Thread I hope CW is listening! I could not pass on having this fighter! I already have 3 CW Tomcats and I would have at least 3 Crusaders if the versions were as colorful as we have seen on this thread. I like the idea of having 2 wings included but that may add too much to the cost of the model. How about just making all of the operable parts operable instead (like Dragon's tail rudders and flaps)? | |||||||||||||

| Re: The Official Begging for a Crusader Thread That's what the second half of my post was about. Since F-8's don't have drop tanks and half of them don't even have wing pylons---the money/plastic saved can be used to give us a second wing instead of all those pieces. No Phoenix pallets or TARPS either. And a max of 4 missiles of a single type, not 6 Sparrows and 4 Phoenixes and 2 Sidewinders. Add up all that stuff from the F-14 that the F-8 doesn't have, and there should be more than enough plastic/money saved from not including those to use for a second wing. The only real weapons options are single vs dual Sidewinder rails (which could easily be split between the types instead of including both types with a single release---A through D getting singles, E and higher getting doubles---that's pretty much how it went), and Zuni rockets instead of Sidewinders (give those to the Marines ones). Bombs aren't seen THAT much, easily skippable. (Just use the ones from the HM A-10, it's exactly what F-8's used, and A-10's didn't use them at all) | |||||||||||||

| Re: The Official Begging for a Crusader Thread Okay but...we would want metal wings - not plastic! Right? Why would it be "impossible" to just make the operable parts operable like the real thing though? | |||||||||||||
