Re: new vf84 jolly rogers tomcats in japan

I think these pieces are exsquisite examples, but I also think $100.00 for a 1/72 ac is a bit much. My limit for these types would be $85.00 tops, and even then, when compared to the FOV and Dragon offerings at half of that, they're really not bad pieces, unless of course you're the "rivet counter" type of person

I was just asking out of curiosity because I don't live in the US and had on occasions to order stuff from onlie retailers in the US...and WAIT for these models to arrive to the US after a long trip from China, then be shipped BACK...and pay the shipping back to this side of the Pacific. The Carousel P-40 cost me around 100 US$ for that reason....
Too bad you guys didn't have to suffer for too long!

Hey, where the heck is Nuclear Tiger? he should be reading this thread!

Re: new vf84 jolly rogers tomcats in japan

It's a shame that US Distribution lags so far behind East Asia's. This is due to the approxmiately thirty days of boat travel, but they could synchronize the release in the different markets if they really wanted to.

Correction: distribution in East Asia is limited to Japan only, AFAIK, and that sucks big time. Seems you are starting to get these puppies in the US though, congratulations!

Re: new vf84 jolly rogers tomcats in japan

I really hope the D model looks good and isn't just an A with new cans on it.
I can't decide which VF-84 to get. I really like them both the wings out version is unique ut it is also really limited in how it could realisticly be displayed....and without a carrier deck . I think I'll just take the plunge with the sweeping wing VF-84. hopefully one of the other releases will have the out configuration.

Question, are the weapons interchangable? Meaning, if I remove the Pheonix pallets can I mount sparrows instead?

Chris

P.S. Great to be back!!! I didn't know it was back and gave up hope

Re: new vf84 jolly rogers tomcats in japan

I'm going to chime in and say from the pics I've seen so far, these are the most accurate 1/72 jets period. They are 1000x more accurate than the Dragon or Witty F-14's. They have things that even the nigh-perfect Hasegawa models kits omit. Anyone who knows/remembers me knows that praise from me is incredibly rare (while criticising and ranting is common). But these deserve praise, and lots of it. Hand-built 1/72 plastic kits are rarely this correct. Every single detail I can think of to check, is correct. Every little difference between a late 70's and current F-14A (as in VF-84 vs VF-154) is accounted for. Dozens of little things. Anyone remember my huge list of errors for Dragon's and Witty's F-14's? Well, the century one has every single one of those things right. I still can't find anything wrong with them. I'll gladly provide a list if people want, but just know that the Century F-14's are the most accurate fighter jet you can buy period IMHO. Bigger certainly isn't better (Franklin/Armour are about the worst F-14's accuracy-wise).

I will gladly pay more for a F-14 that is amazingly accurate. Despite being my fave fighter (see my avatar) I still don't have any diecast F-14's because Witty and Dragon screwed up so bad on even the basics (A vs B vs D), even on something as "simple" as a basic 1980's CAG VF-111 F-14A. But now Century has come out with apparently flawless ones that are accurately detailed for both the specific production block and year of service, and the VF-154 even has THREE-TONE GREY paint. I never expected to see it done right. All those two-tone grey Witty and Dragon F-14's? Wrong. F-14 low-vis is THREE shades, and it's almost never done right, even in commisioned paintings and professional 10-foot long custom models. But Century got it right, and the colors themselves are much better.

I wish Century would make F-15's, 16's, and 18's----imagine an F-15E that actually had bomb racks and navigation pods! Or F-16's with the right intakes, and no permanently-mounted HARM launchers. And Hornets that didn't have their wingtip rails messed up to fit AMRAAMs they can't carry anyways. I'd sell all my other jets and have a Century-only collection if I could if their future offerings are as good.

It's very rare to see me praising/happy online about diecast jets, but I'm basically ecstatic over the Century F-14's. If they got the differences between the Jolly Rogers and Black Knights F-14A's so correct, I expect great things from their F-14B. (and hoping for a red-tailed VF-101, and a white-tipped VF-103)

PS---yes, I only just now found the Model Hangar was back. The Model Hangar's rebirth seems to be totally unreported on many diecast forums.

Re: new vf84 jolly rogers tomcats in japan

Welcome back David.

I have the AJ200 VF-84 F-14A. It's the best among my collection. I was looking forward to the bomb-carrying and LANTIRN equipped F-14. Have resisted the Dragon and Witty VF-213. So far, saw that the VF-154 F-14A will be released in Jan/Feb next year. Any idea when will the VF-101 F-14D will be out? Have not seen any pictures of the F-14D.

Re: new vf84 jolly rogers tomcats in japan

There were two like that (a B and a D), and which year/reaper version?

For VF-101 I want the 95/96 red-tailed B, the best Tomcat scheme ever IMHO. Or, the backup demo plane from 2003.
