Re: new vf84 jolly rodgers tomcats in japan

Hi Zed--

You're right. I received another kind note from Urata-san this morning (who is a reader of The Model Hangar), clarifying some things:

1. The VF-154 and VF-41 F-14s sold by Unimax under the "Forces of Valor" brand are based on the same design as the forthcoming CenturyWings VF-84, VF-21, VF-154, and VF-101 F-14s. (In fact, Urata-san personally supervised the production of all of these.) The new airplanes will include the fantastic "single piece" removable landing gear and stores.

2. The new CenturyWings F-14s will feature some refinements to the FOV models, but will look very similar.

3. The new CenturyWings F-14s will have opening canopies and removable (!) aircrew.

4. Loadouts are realistic to the portrayed airplane, and are not generic. For example, the low-viz VF-154 "Bombcat" (side number 101) that is due in 2007 comes with:

4 x Mk 83 slick bombs
2 x GBU-12 (?) laser-guided bombs
2 x JDAM
2 x AIM-9 Sidewinder
1 x AIM-7 Sparrow
1 x AIM-54 Phoenix
1 x LANTIRN pod
2 x drop tanks

Frankly, these look incredible. Someone get these guys a U.S./European distributor!

I love the whole kneeling choice that you have to make it look like it is about to launch.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: new vf84 jolly rogers tomcats in japan

Wait so I take it the kneeling version does not have swappable gear and swing wings right? If it has retractable slats/flaps and swingwings....wow....

Otherwise I want to pick up the normal versions since I like swooshing them around. These seem to be the best Tomcats on the market right now and I eagerly anticipate them being released in the USA. I hope they do VF-1 Wolfpack era liveries. That and the Shark mouth Grim Reaper with red tails

Re: new vf84 jolly rogers tomcats in japan

I don't know, you guys....I realize the lack of a nose probe (and numerous other inaccuracies) on the Draggin's Cats is an issue for many...but I still think they look better ...These just really look "off" to me.....The colors,(is that glossy greenish/blue?) the panel lines, the thick wheel hubs...(nice weapons loadout though)....Maybe they look better in "person".....

Just give me a 2 minute head start before you open up on me, please!
