The Black Knights 101 and 100 planes at the end were basically identical. I like the Black Knights, but will wait for one of their better schemes----their final scheme (what Century did) is certainly one of the less colorful of theirs in recent years.

Re: new vf84 jolly rogers tomcats in japan

I'm glad to hear that the Mule will be getting the VF-84 birds in soon. Any word on when they may get the other Tomcats?

Chris

Re: new vf84 jolly rogers tomcats in japan

Okay, I'm convinced. I had been waiting for a year and a half for Draggin' to release their VF-41 Tomcat and I have now officially given up. Perhaps it's a blessing, given all the bad press their F-14 line has received from so many of you. I'm disappointed in that, as I have one each of their F-15C, F-16C, F/A-18C and F/A-18F(VFA-41) and really like all of them quite well. I wonder why they dropped the ball so badly with the Tomcat.

So, it looks like a Century will be my first (and at the price, possibly only) diecast F-14. Question: does anyone know if the paint job on the tires/wheels is as sloppy on these as it appears in some of the pics I've seen?..Looks like they're painted by jim at around 0230 right after he gets home from the pub.

undercarriage has a wash applied and the tyres are hard rubber, the problem with some pics is that they overemphasize the applied washes same thing happens with the hobbymaster photo's,see them in the flesh and they are just right.look for the fov vf-41 release its better than any dragon

Zed, is there a particular place too get the VF-41 FOV tomcat, or do we just try our luck on the auction sites? I've yet to see any at my local Toys R Us and the Mule doesn't carry them.

Re: new vf84 jolly rogers tomcats in japan

Thanks, zed...I didn't realize the tires were separate from the wheels (nice). In some of the photos it looked like the white paint from the wheels had splashed over onto the tires.

Now I can confidently tell Mrs."S" what she's getting her big stud for his birthday.
...and when they're busy I'm gonna swipe it)

Century Wings Tomcat

I saw an example of the Century Wings Tomcat at a hobby store in Southern California. It was an advance model they had received to display for pre-orders. Not sure if it was a pre-pro or not but the paint finish seemed pretty glossy to me. So this is my question: is a glossy or semi-glossy finish accurate?

Re: Century Wings Tomcat

If a US Navy plane was painted gull grey, then it should be glossy. Especially an early F-14. Interesting note: every F-14 ever built was delivered in gloss gull grey from the factory. Those that were delivered in the low-vis era were immediately repainted upon delivery. It was cheaper to totally repaint every plane, than to try to change the contract!

PS--don't ever use a museum plane for reference, it's sad how inaccurately painted many are. Even the best have "issues".
