Re: Have to ask, how many have the A-6 on order already...

Slightly surprised, because while the model is unique, it doesn't have ... the Hollywood history!!

You can see the exact scheme of CWs first release in "Final Countdown"...and let's not forget the Intruder got it's very own movie with "Flight of the Intruder"!

This is a case that goes against the adage that fighter pilots make movies, attack pilots make history....but the Intruder gets both!

Re: Have to ask, how many have the A-6 on order already...

Just saw that one of the A-6s is already sold out. Not sure if the second one will make it to the local store for walk-in customers.

Yeap. I think its more for the distributors though. Probably just means that all the pieces have been fully allocated.

That's good to see...Maybe it will encourage CW (and others) to start producing more of these rather "obscure" types that have been ignored for so long....

Now how 'bout a Vigi?????

I agree Skunky... I wish I had a dollar for every "obscure" 1/72 and 1/400 model request I got at my store. That being said though, CW is doing a great job of capturing a previously untapped market. The A-6 has really grown on me. I first thought it was an odd follow up to the F-14 but I've grown to appreciate CW for their decision to feature not only the A-6 but also the KA-6. What a great idea to feauture a unique aspect of the intruder's mission and highlight its refueling capability. To me that is really understanding the intricacies of the aircraft/Navy and a sign of respect to the hobby and serious collectors. It really opens the door for them to continue to expand the line with other variants that are significant in military aviation history. While not the most significant aircraft of the past 50 years, can you imagine an F-5 in all of the various configurations? or a Tornado? (Plus the F-4 that I really hope they eventually make). If anyone was to really capture a model properly, it would be CW. In short, I (and many others) am eagerly anticipating the A-6 deliveries coming soon!

Take Care,
Jeff

Re: Have to ask, how many have the A-6 on order already...

I just received my A-6E today and I really like it. Due to no swing wing, there isn't any issues of things like gaps on mine. and it comes with a little hook accessory to use to remove the gear doors in the closed position! Fantastic idea!! And the stand is pretty good too. Its not on an angle like the F-14's.

Weapons review please. How are things attached? Separate pylons, rails, launchers? What can be swapped? (or looks designed to be swapped with weapons of future releases).

ok, the 12 inboard bombs are glued to the MER. but If you're careful, you can cut one of the bombs off closest to the landing gear if you want.
The shrikes come attached to the pylon in the box, but they are actually detachable from the pylon itself. However, only the shrike is detached. Its railing is molded to the pylon.
The Ext Fuel Tank for the stand doesn't attach the the aircraft. Infact, it doesn't have a pylon. It gets sandwiched between the aircraft and the base of the stand

The outboard and inboard pylons have a very slight difference structurally. But if you're not picky, You can move them around. Though with this one, the MER is molded/well stuck to the pylon.

Oh, I forgot to add,
the rear landing gears are not one piece like the tomcats due to the structure of the fueslage. Some things just cant be avoided

oh and the pilots are super easy to fit in. Just the sliding canopy is a bit stiff though
