Re: C1 P-36 in 2008!

I just received an email back from Mr. Dalton regarding expanding the P-36 line to cover some of the export versions. Sounds slightly optimistic that there might be a chance of some French and Vichy French models in the future if the current line does well. Sounded like his concern with a Finish variant, was that they might not be able to sell 200 of them. Personally I think any of the export versions would sell better than the current ones offered. Probably need to drum up more support for some of the export version paint schemes.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Absolutely, they will sell better. I know I'll get one or two of the initial US versions, but historically the foreign versions would be more significant AND more colorful to boot. So I'd get at least one French, one Finish, and one Dutch Indies version if they made them.

For my peculiar situation, the Walker P-36 fits perfectly with my new pre-war 1/48 collection. Any version that actually fought in WW 2 would need to be 1/72.

Count me in for a French Hawk plus a Finnish one if Frank turns it out.

Re: C1 P-36 in 2008!

I just hope the the folks at Carousel break from their current trend of only doing one selection of models. From last email I received, just does not sound to promissing that we will see either the French or Finnish variants of this aircraft. If we were talking HM folks I would hold out some hope, but not to confident with the Carousel folks.

Difficult to find a duller and more unimaginative scheme :

c1-p-36-2008-ca-6121_04_lrg.gif

Moreover, there are disgraceful gaps on the cowling sides, that the uniform silver paint is going to make stand out...

I will buy it because it's a P-36, but any European machine would have looked SOOO much better !

Is it my imagination or does this one have a canopy similar to their P-40. Shame to have cockpit detail, but not have a way to display with canopy open. Pretty large gaps to as you pointed out. I have a pre order on all three, but thinking about maybe just getting one now.

I don't mind the dull unimaginative paint schemes. Most of the WWII carrier planes were pretty plain. Never was a fan of the tiger meet schemes and show birds (only one I have is a Blue Angel F-18). My brother is the opposite of me, the wilder and flashier are what he likes the most. I'll end up getting one of the silver ones, but not sure which yet. I imagine they picked the Rasmussen one because of it's historical significance.

Re: C1 P-36 in 2008!

We can sure do a number on an aircraft before we even have it in hand, huh! It WILL fit in perfectly with my early PTO grouping, and that is a major plus for me. On the "Big Picture",because I'm limited in display space, and my only income is my "generous" disability dole, the only other variant I would really jump on is the Finnish Hawk 75 that we have discussed, which would match well against the rumored H.M. I-16.

Re: C1 P-36 in 2008!

I just looked at the pictures on TFM and I have to say I'm disappointed in that seam/join line
on the cowling. In past models, C1 was really careful at hiding their seams in a logical place,
but, in this P-36, there it is, right smack-dab in the open. Does anyone vet the pre-production
models for aesthetics, before they are finalized for production? I can trace this phenomenon
back (recently, at least) to Corgi, with awefully placed seam/join lines on the Typhoon, P-38 and
Spad XIII. Even if C1 produces Finnish/French/Dutch models, I'll still only buy one model, just
to say I have a P-36 in my collection, and I'll probably display it on a bottom shelf near the back.
Somebody with an artistic eye needs to look at these models before they go into production, IMHO.
