Re: C1 P-36 in 2008!

Amy @C1,whom I just spoke to,said another "couple of weeks" she referred to the A/C on hand as "pre-pros".We'll know pretty soon just what the darn thing REALLY looks like, warts and all!!!!!!!!!

You're right, roo. However, if I were a bettin' man, I would bet that join line will cut right across the cowling. It may have a bit tighter fit than that pictures posted at the Mule, but I don't think it will go away. Hopefully, the production models will still look otherwise as nice as the pics posted at the Mule. Other than the join line, I think it looks Fabuloso!

Guess we just have to wait and see. Hopefully C1 will do the opposite of what Corgi did with their SPAD XIII. No cowling joint line in the pre-pro but a massive one in the retail model.

Re: C1 P-36 in 2008!

I kind of expect the join line as well, but I'll accept it if its "toned down". Like,I love my HM MkXIV Spit., but just where are the .50's in the wings? I didn't even get a dab of paint!!!

Re: C1 P-36 in 2008!

I don't think that the join lines on Carousel's new P-36, if they appear on the actual production models, are a total disaster. It does surprise me that they got this far prior to release without reconsidering this issue, especially after the long delay in putting out a new model. The lines, if they are for real, will not be as apparent if C1 does a French or Finnish livery---hint, hint! Or better, yet, ----both liveries.

For the curious Bad Cat has some photos of the first model up on their site. To my eyes the model looks better in these photos though it is still not the most exciting scheme ever produced!

Thanks, ships! Decent pictures. However, the model is photo'd from angles where the seam across the cowl isn't so noticeable, but it is there.

Edit: spent some time this evening inspecting the pictures at TFM and Bad Cats and comparing with a reference manual I have along with google images. I noticed something interesting about that cowling seam on the model: it is a panel line--or rather joined here because this is where the panel line is. Where it jogs through the cooling gills--that also appears to be where the cooling gills separate from each other. It appears that C1 deliberately designed it this way... to simulate the panel line and cooling gill separation. Interesting! I am not suggesting it looks good, just gives some insight into why C1 placed that seam there, or rather incorporated the panel line and the cooling gills of the original aircraft design into the model's join area.

There are several features on the model that C1 represented very well... I think: the gear struts and doors, the exhaust fairings, the nose gun blast tubes, the dihedral of the wings, the wing root fastener rivets, overall shape looks good. The finish is, as usual, terrific. I am impressed by what I see.

P36 in Hand

I just got the P36 in my hand via the big brown truck....Nice model! Overall pleased, and since it's my first NMF A/C it stands out amongst its' peers, colorful enough for me. It uses the existing P40 tail and wings, canopy is new,but does not slide, shame when I see how nice the cockpit is done.Pilot also came from the P40 - no change.Attention to detail is excellent, love the landing gear and wells. The cowling seam is of course evident, but it does not "draw the eye" like I thought it would.Superb, smooth finish,as I expect from C1.. It sits well with the F4F,P40,HM Buffalo....no worse,no better. It is not equal to the amazing job done on the Dora, but I did not expect it,either. One is enough for me unless the Finnish scheme is done.It just does not have enough "wow factor" for me to consider buying the other two variants next month............
