Re: C1 P-36 in 2008!

I just looked at the pictures on TFM and I have to say I'm disappointed in that seam/join line
on the cowling. In past models, C1 was really careful at hiding their seams in a logical place,
but, in this P-36, there it is, right smack-dab in the open. Does anyone vet the pre-production
models for aesthetics, before they are finalized for production? I can trace this phenomenon
back (recently, at least) to Corgi, with awefully placed seam/join lines on the Typhoon, P-38 and
Spad XIII. Even if C1 produces Finnish/French/Dutch models, I'll still only buy one model, just
to say I have a P-36 in my collection, and I'll probably display it on a bottom shelf near the back.
Somebody with an artistic eye needs to look at these models before they go into production, IMHO.

Yep the join line on the cowling is a bit of a dissappointment. I had all three on pre order, but cut order down to just one. I am hoping the Cleveland Air Race version will not show this seam line as much.

Might be easier to make, but looks awful. C1 did a much better job on the F4F, where the horizontal fuselage joint line stops at the engine cowling.

Originally I was pretty excited about these, but after the close up shots, just lukewarm now.

Unhappy Re: C1 P-36 in 2008!

I'll need to see this in hand to judge it for myself, but its definitely NOT up to todays standards per photos, acceptable, maybe. I consider C1 to be a notch above this in their other offerings.......

I hope these are just model pre pros pictures..A little wash would look a little better i think at least i would hide that eye sore seamline
a little on the cowl area...
This is not what i thought it would be.

I'm glad I'm not the only one a bit taken aback by the photos. I was ready to buy at least one of these but if they look like that and cost that much I'll probably pass and spend my money on something more interesting to me.

Close up pictures definitely a bit of a dissappointment. Cowling seam and not being able to display canopy open were the two big distractors for me. Intially wanted to get one of each, but for now just going with one. Kind of wish HM had done this one.

Re: C1 P-36 in 2008!

I have no dog in this hunt, but we should remember that seams sometimes look worse in pics vs real life. That said, seems the cowling should be one seamless piece.

I agree Cappy. The model may yet still be an impressive display piece. However, it is a bit difficult to understand why C1 did not end the join line at the cowling, and then make a separate one piece cowling. Only Frank Dalton can explain this one.

Regarding the one piece canopy, this is really no surprise and given what we have seen with the P-40 / Tomahawk and Wildcat was, I think, to be expected; at least I fully expected this to have a one piece canopy. From the pictures, I see some nice features in the model. The finish looks terrific... the two toned silver paint simulating painted fabric control surfaces is attractive. Panel lines look nice. Rivet fasteners at the wing root look very subtle. Nevertheless, we are all forming impressions from small pictures.

Let us not forget that HM recently released a model with hideous join lines across the wings and in the nose area leading into the air intakes; yet many have found the model more than satisfactory.

It reminds me of an Armour / Franklin Mint model with a nicer cockpit.
