| Re: C1 P-36 in 2008! Well sure, the Pearl Harbor one was always going to be a must. The prewar one is jumping on the HM prewar bandwagon, so it might appeal to people who liked those - but then again, it's another silver one. The Cleveland one is a bit different and from the comments here I gather many of you like it. Nevertheless, you'd really have to say that if C1 is going to do only three schemes for this model, they really could have thought of something different - like for example the Vichy French scheme, or a Finnish one - instead of doing three silver-based schemes. I will probably get the Pearl one, despite the postage cost. The other ones do not float my boat, and I have a feeling not enough people will be ordering all three of these quite similar versions - something they might have done if there'd been a bit more variety (think Papegai Staffel versus Franz Gotz - very distinct schemes, and very difficult to have just the one!). I really hope that C1 will see the possibilities for this cast, and will bring out some more Hawk schemes in the longer run. It's great that some are very happy with these initial schemes, but if they don't bring out anymore, this model will always be a missed opportunity in my book. | |||||||||||||

| Re: C1 P-36 in 2008!
I am hoping that the folks at Carousel will do a Finnish, couple of French and maybe even a Dutch Hawk 75. I just wish there was a point of contact where we could voice our opinions on this.

| Re: C1 P-36 in 2008!
I agree. This is the most important livery to be done. December 7, 1941 was the pivotal day for the entire world. What Rasmussen did in his P-36 (and other U.S. flyboys that day) cannot be overstated. So, this first livery, Cardo, is no more "unimaginative, dull, boring, etc." than C1's Welch P-40. As for the next livery, the Cleveland Air Race livery, I cannot see this release being any more dull, boring, unimaginative than C1's Udet Bf 109. Both are air racers. On the contrary--that all red 109 may be the most dull, boring release of the whole C1 lot. The 1939 Cleveland Air Race liveries of the 27th Pursuit Sqadron stick in the mind and consciousness of American vintage aviation buffs like superglue. This livery is always a favorite to model. Pictures of these aircraft are almost iconic. This release is easily in my top 5 of all time most wanted models. I never thought it would be done, and one of my fondest wishes is now coming true. If the quality of these pieces holds up to C1's previous standards, I will not and cannot be more thrilled with a model. Finally, the Walker release: I concede that Frank Dalton could have picked a livery with more worldwide significance--a battle proven aircraft in a BC, French, Chinese, or Finnish livery. Currently, I will not pick this one up, but may change my mind later. I don't know why Dalton picked this particular livery... maybe he wanted to honor General Walker, maybe he just liked the livery. I think the livery is very eye-appealing... it is a beautiful livery, but perhaps not so important other than it was the one-time mount of General Walker. But the model itself will certainly not be "dull". I hope C1 does an export livery. Personally, I would prefer a Finnish livery. But, I wouldn't count on another livery anytime soon, if at all. The company seems content with an average of three liveries per mold.

| Re: C1 P-36 in 2008!
Lets square the facts. To date, C1 has released 12 pre WWII models, all of these prior to Hobby Master's F2A. Granted, 10 of the 12 are WWI models. Nevertheless, C1 released its pre-war Wildcat and pre-war Udet 109 prior to any HM 1:48 pre-war release. My guess is that Frank Dalton had these P-36 liveries in the works for a long time, irrespective of any pre-war HM model. So, if there is indeed a pre-war bandwagon, it was not necessarily put in motion by Hobby Master.

| Re: C1 P-36 in 2008!
I think everybody understands pre-war to be pre-WW2. While C1 was first to the dance with its pre-war F4F-3 and Udet's 109, it was the announcement of HM's F3F that put me over the top to expand my 1/48 collecting beyond WW 1 to include pre-WW 2 models. So at the same time I pre-ordered the F3F, I ordered up a HM F2A and C1 F4F-3. From my personal perspective their is indeed a HM inspired pre-war bandwagon, but it was inspired by the F3F not the F2A. This has been to the benefit of both HM and C1. The next model jumping on the bandwagon at my home field will be the Walker P-36A. I'm hoping between C1 and HM we might someday get a Curtiss P-6E, Curtiss SBC, Boeing F4B, and Boeing P-26.

| Re: C1 P-36 in 2008! I'll say it again: the F4F-3 was a gutsy release and deserves A) appreciation and B) more versions. A -4 would have been the obvious choice as it was the definitive variant, but the -3 opens up pre war and early war (thru about April 1942) possibilities. READ: oversize circular US prewar markings on early '42 Wildcats, and nice 'n shiny yellow and silver 1940 liveries. Right now we just have Shield's mount... could use a few more CAGs. | |||||||||||||

| Re: C1 P-36 in 2008! Just received a nice reply from Frank @ Carousel1 per our livery dicussions. His decision on future liveries will be based upon sales of the initial 3 offerings. C1's primary market is in the U.S.,and marketing must appeal to many buyers who obviously are not as sophisticated as many of our membership posting on this forum, thus the concentration on appeal to "Joe Average" when a scheme is selected. Frank demonstrated a broad knowledge of possible interesting P36-Hawk 75 schemes, but I think it might be a while before any of our ideas see production. | |||||||||||||
