Re: Pics: C1 Wubke Dora

I think your right. I feel a bit sheepish.

No need... . I can see how my post may have been misinterpreted. Yes, I acquired "Hofmann's" D-11 when it first came out. Then I acquired Gotz's D-13 when it came out. I later decided to complete the "trifecta" as vagm put it and picked up the D-9. Although beloved, the D-9 is a bit less so than the other two... that's why I stated I would start there and see how I like the results.

Re: Pics: C1 Wubke Dora

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this thread is way off base. From the very start everything was wrong and now, now that all of you have jumped on the bandwagon, I have to end it.

This is not Wubke's Dora, it's Karl-Heinz Hofmann's! Now, you can slather on the drool...

You got us all, Parsig! Pappy probably confused Dragon's Wubke with C1's Hofmann. I had both models at one time and I didn't even stop to think about the title of this thread. I sold Wubke after I got Hofmann!

In February 1945, Goring authorized Galland to form a Jagdverband (Special Fighter Squadron) of experienced pilots to fly the Me 262. Retraining took time, and they did not become operational until 5 April, 1945. Galland recruited Leutnant Heinz Sachsenberg (104 victories) from Jagd Geschwader (Hunting Wing0 26, to lead a Platzschutzstaffel (Airfield Defense Flight). Four Fw190D’s were acquired: three D-9’s and one D-11. They painted these airplanes red underneath with white stripes on the undersides of the wings, horizontal tail planes and forward fuselage to prevent German flak from confusing their ‘Doras’ with American Mustangs. When jets took off and landed, the 190D’s were to circle the vicinity of the Munich-Reim airfield at an altitude of 500 meters and never to pursue Allied fighters. They used the radio call signal Pagagei (Parrot), but this was not a name for their unit. Sachsenberg flew “Red 1”, Hptm. Waldemar Wubke flew “Red 3” and Oblt. Klaus Faber flew “Red 13” , (all D-9s). Lt. Karl-Heinz Hofmann flew “Red 4’ a D-11. Previously this Dora-11 aircraft was thought a prototype, but the latest information confirms that it was a production aircraft with standard two-tone green camouflage. Hofmann was one of the few members of JV 44 Doras bore slogans, and Hofmann’s was “ Der Nachste Herr deiselbe Dame!” ( The next Guy same Dame!) His rare Dora-11 had 30mm cannons mounted outboard of the landing gear instead of the cannons in the wing roots). Although the D-11 had much greater firepower, outboard cannons were prone to jam, and many pilots preferred the D-9’s concentrated firing pattern.

D'oh, sorry -- I could swear I remember discussion on MH I and here about the C1 being more accurate color wise than Dragon's, which is why I have wubke on the brain... sorry gents.

Thanks Parsig, neat bit of history you passed on.

Re: Pics: C1 Wubke Dora

The Doras,I discovered, are much like certain substances I enjoyed many years ago....face up to the Jones'n,buy all three and relax in the glow!!!! On the Pitot tube question,I pulled mine out, trimmed off the first tiny bit,and just stuck 'em back in. Now they are straight. The way I like to handle my A/C and the fact that they are openly displayed is asking for a breakage issue. I'm too much of a little kid to just put them in a case and admire them,I'm in a sort of a childhood gratification mode right now!! If you want to do the Pitot tube#,which I did size up,use the same .032 tubing and fit a piece of .016 rod inside it and trim to length. It is a tighter fit than the 20mms so I guess just be extra careful with the super glue or use Elmers or another benign stick-um . handling my gems did result in a crash of MvRs Red Tripe last year which was repairable except I couldn't redo the undercarriage rigging.Sort of thing that would have had me in tears, and calling for my Grandfather to fix many years ago.

I like the undersides on that Dora....Kinda reminds me of the Flying Circus days of the Red Baron's jasta Sqn.
