Re: How many C1's in your collection?

Why is it now days you are seeing the companies looking for another factory to build their products over in China...
Maybe they should look outside China....

Re: How many C1's in your collection?

I have nine C1's ---- 2 P-40(Boyington and Caldwell); 2 109E(Schroer and Von Werra); 2 190 Dora's(Hoffman and Gotz) and 3 Wildcat's(Foss, Shields, and O'Hare). I consider the 190D-13 of Hoffman to be the finest 1/48 model in my collection(300+ 1/48 models). I have seen class winners at IPMS shows that did'nt have any nicer paint or finish than Carousel's die cast example of this aircraft. I hope to see some new stuff later in 2008--there are plenty of good choices for repaints on their existing castings. ---------- Happy collecting, markko

Cool Re: How many C1's in your collection?

Interesting A.A. - that's one heck of available issues in 1:48. In my first post I indicated that I used Aikens as my sole source and did not use a formal catalogue issued by Franklin Mint. If 570 is the number [fixed-wing & choppers} then at an average cost of $89.04, that's $50,752.80 for the lot.

A bit out of my retirement account by about $48,250.

Yes, that is correct. I have 261 Armour Collection 1/48's, 9 Carousel, 20 SpecCast( corsairs, P-40's, and Sabre's ), 3 Model Power WW1, and every EI Mustang and AT-6 released to date. Oop's, almost forgot---I also have 9 Marushin 1/48 Japanese aircraft. In addition to the 1/48's, I have 7 Corgi 1/32's and approx. 20 Corgi 1/72 models( mostly British jets, including all of the EE Lightnings--8 or 9 I think-- produced by Corgi). Also have some 1/400 airliners; mostly examples of types of aircraft that I have flown on, in the livery of the airline in which I flew. ---Happy collecting, markko

Yeah, makes it kinda hard for a collector to own them all. Sure, Aikens is a good source. But since there are so many special versions out there the number is in fact higher. For example there are 9 Swiss Hornets alone...

And I think the total cost would be higher since some retired models cost an arm and a leg today.

Mind boggling numbers anyway...

This is great, nice to see another collector who appreciates 1/48 to the fullest. If you have time, one of these days, please post pictures. Looks like you have an awesome collection. Lots of similarities to mine, except I don't have quite that many FM/As (and no airliners), but more 1/72 Corgis (jets and WWII, including the large bombers) and others (a few HMs, Dragons, Wittys, CW, IXOs, etc...). Also have some GMPs.

Were you/are you an airline pilot, or did you mean you flew on these planes as a passenger?

Cheers!
