Question Thinking about Flyboy Set???

Have never seen any Carousel one models, but found a site where the whole set of Flyboys Movies Airplanes is $199.50 shipped to my door.

Makes each one under $40.00 with shipping, seems like a good deal.

Has anyone got any info on these releases, I have been to the Carousel 1 site but the pictures are not real big nor detailed, are the planes amazing or just like Model Powers 1/48 / Matchbox 1/48 scale models? Maybe they have rigging? or do these aircraft even have rigging?

The boxes will probably be neat, just dont want to spend $200.00 if they arent really nice but it is the best deal I could find on them. Any opinions would be helpful.

Be neat to have the 1st sets of planes ever released based on a movie?

I have the first 2 Nieuports & the models are works of art. I also paid $70 each. The planes have rigging & a pilot (w/NO face!). Each plane also comes w/ a display base (Fake marble). Considering the quality of these models & the usual higher price, the movie set is a heck of a deal. I already have the 2 Nieuports (in historical markings) so I am not adding these. The Fokkers' I'll have to think about. My only qualm w/the movie set is that they are just that, copies of the movie planes. It may depend on the movie, as it could make or break these models......From the adds on TV the CGI doesn't look like it meshes that well w/the actual scenes. Maybe it'll be better (or worse) on the big screen.....In conclusion, the Carousel1 1/48 models are nice. A good deal at the $40 price.....Hope this helps..(If not blame planenuts)

I have ordered the whole set.
If you don't get them before the movie in a few days.
They my cost more if the movie's a hit.
These are really neat looking diecast models.

Re: Thinking about Flyboy Set???

I just checked out the pictures of the movie planes. There isn't any rigging shown on the Nieuports. Apparently these models are missing some of the details present in the two I have. So in essence these models are $40 versions of a Carousel1 & don't fully duplicate the level of excellence found in the initial offerings.

Re: Thinking about Flyboy Set???

I just checked them out but I think I'm going to wait and see how much I like the movie before I spend $200 on the set

Thumbs up Re: Thinking about Flyboy Set???

I picked up the Nieuport w/ the rockets this weekend. VERY NICE!!!
I held off on the 2nd version, kinda plain and well $70 buys me 3 Dragon or Hobbymaster birds! Very pleased w/ the one though, except that faceless thing in the cockpit!
Holding off on the Tripes for now also, Red Baron included. I have a couple of Matchbox and a Dragon Kit I built a few years ago which do fine. Well for now anyway... I may roll over on this as Bob Perry twists my arm!

I'm hoping Carousel1 does different schemes on the Fokker. I too have multiple Baron's.

Talking Re: Thinking about Flyboy Set???

Yeah Tri there are SOOOOOO many possibilities w/ WW I subjects. I picked up some French model mags from the sale table @ my local hobby shop. Cant read a lick of it BUT some great images. One article is all on Tripes, lots of paint schemes for an imaginative model builder! I did my DML/Dragon kit in an overall medium blue w/ white tail (pardon I forget the pilots name ). Fairly simple to paint and different!
