Since C1 allready did a pre war Wildcat why not a P-40.

That sounds like a great suggestion for the folks a Carousel. It would make for a nice looking model and P 40 would look sharp in its pre war colors.

Terrific suggestion Phantom! I would most certainly purchase it... I love C1's P-40 mold and wish like Dickens they would release more castings.

The vast majority of my models are displayed "on the ground", but to me that Boyington P-40 just screams to be in the air for some reason...

The pre-war P-40 (like the one in the picture) only had the two cowling mounted 50 cal, no wing guns. Would have to make that small modification to the mold, but it would be a sweet model.

P 40 in the picture was probably one of the two initial P-40s and that would explain the absence of wing armament. The first really combat version would be the P-40B and that variant had the wing armament. Looks like Carousel could make some fairly nice looking pre war P-40Bs without having to modify their molds. I have not been able to dig up an photos of the pre war P-40Bs in natural metal finish, but there is no shortage in the OD pre war paint schemes.

The initial P-40 production run consisted of 200 aircraft, these armed only with two 50 cal machine guns in the cowling. Curtis designation was H81. I believe it is one of these machines shown in the photo.

The French ordered the H81A-1, which could also have two 30 cal guns installed in each wing. The British took over that order and 140 (Tomahawk I) were delivered.

Based on British requirements, Curtis brought out the H81B, which with the addition of armor plate, self sealing tanks and wing guns became the P-40B (131 produced) and C (193 made). Export version of the P-40B was the H81A-2, Tomahawk IIA (110 delivered). Export version of the P-40C was the H81A-3, Tomahawk IIB (930 delivered).

Well if it is a choice of that or nothing I think I could live with it.

It just doesn't seem right to see the old girl without her battle dress.

A nice example would be a P40 CU , they made around 200 of those ,
An OD and gray scheme would be fine by me and perhaps a home based plane of the 8th Pursuit group.

The Carousel model is a real beauty and I hope they will do more of this mold, and even better with a stand please.


Hows about this tale of a P40 far from home and battling against the odds,
While flying his P40, Clive Caldwell was attacked out of the sun by a pair 109s.
The 109s put 108 bullet holes and five 20 mm shells into Caldwells plane making his flaps inoperative and puncturing a tyre.

Caldwell did not take kindly to this and promptly shot down one of his attackers and forcing the other to turn tail and run for home.

Caldwell returned to base and landed his P40 without a problem.

Betcha couldn't do that in yer fancy pants Spitfires or Mustangs.
