Bet skunky would just love it if it was a gold-plated version. It would go nicely with his Corgi Gold Mustang.

Re: How about a pre war P-40???

I'm with you on this choice! Can someone info Frank @ C1 about this, possibly send him the photo, even? It would be a great interim release (along with maybe another Triplane?) if there is any more delay on their new releases for 2008,or heck ,do 'em anyhow,WITH the new stuff. Love that early/prewar "art-deco" approach. Best Regards, Mike

I think C1 already has a P-40B like this minus the tail stripes.

Yep, but sure would be nice if they could put one out with the bands on the rudder. That would be the one I would want to pick up.

Well of course IXO has one with bands on the tail, ( I will now go and hide my head in shame because I bought one).

Cool Re: How about a pre war P-40???

This is never going to happen, but it would be great if die cast manufactures would produce Interwar aircraft that reflected how the final fighter/bomber was developed. The 20s & 30s are filled with examples of civilian and military prototypes, many of which contributed to the fantastic aircraft we see today. To name just a few, I think the following would make the final cut:

Curtiss P-36; Curtiss SBC Helldiver; Grumman F3F; Republic P-43 Lancer; Seversky P-35A; Vought SB2U Vindicator.

My alltime favorite, which isn't Interwar era, is the Douglas AD/A-1 Skyraider. It's too long a story but, as a result a Hurricane in the south, the Navy moved squadrons north to avoid the storm. Some A-1s were there and before the PA State Troopers arrived on the scene and shooed us off, the Navy guys let us crawl over their expensive toys. It was 1949, I was 15, and actually sat in the cockpit of an A-1.The A-1 went on to be a great aircraft.

Re: How about a pre war P-40???

I love the pre war look on some of these planes as well. I wish I could get that polished P-40 that Speccast made as well.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

On the British side it was boom time with so many experimental planes and of course so many manufactures.
It was certainly the peak of Biplane development, a rich ground for all you string and canvas collectors.
