Butch O'Hare Wildcat

I saw photos of this model on TFM's website. Is this model missing some wing insignias? I thought there were 4 wing insignias on early WWII aircraft rather than the 2 shown.

Re: Butch O'Hare Wildcat

Oops - sorry - I did a little more research and it looks like the model is accurate. I have Joe Foss' Cat. What is the general consensus of O'Hare's Cat?

Hey Lanslide,

I will be checking out Carousel's Wildcat this weekend-- may pick it up if they are out of Pearl P-40's.

Re: Butch O'Hare Wildcat

I am reading "Queen of the Flat Tops" by Stanley Johnson (1943) and it was written before Butch died. Johnson was a correspondent, on the ship during Coral Sea and also as she was sunk. There are some good Butch quotes in this book, esp. in shooting down Bettys.

If you can't find one, check back with me. I believe I have an extra one or two on hand.

Re: Butch O'Hare Wildcat

I just found the Butch O'Hare at a local hobby store. A bit pricey at $65. This is my first Carousel and I will tell you I am glad I held off from the Franklin Mint version. Everyting fit well and the magentic landing gear install works fine.

One thing, though. Is there suppoed to be a stand for these models? I couldn't find one in the box, yet they give you a "gear up" option.

Re: Butch O'Hare Wildcat

If anyone ever flys into O'Hare Airport in Chicago, they have a Butch O'Hare Wildcat on display ( small memorial ). It's worth the stop....

Mike

Re: Butch O'Hare Wildcat

it looks like "some" F4F with VF-3 and VF-6 had only 2 stars instead of 4...........I read Queen of the Flattops as a kid growing up. What a story. Today I
know what ship Carrier 2 was.

Re: Butch O'Hare Wildcat

THe FM WIldat is a turn in the right direction for FM, but the C1 Wildcats are still tops. I have the OHare and the Foss Wildcats. THey are sweet.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

C 1 dosent support a stand for there models. They only provide a display base for all there releases.
