Re: Butch O'Hare Wildcat

I have both FM's and C1's and I (for reasons already expressed in other Wildcat threads) prefer FM's version.

I concur here. Besides, if I'm not mistaken and Ara1 can correct me on this, the FM/Armour F4F-4 have the "folding wings" outline and the Carousel 1's are the F4F-3 variant which did not have the "folding wings" upgrade?

Yes FlyX, and armament and engine were different too. I like both models, but am glad the lesser-known -3 got made.

Re: Butch O'Hare Wildcat

Not true of Joe Foss' Wildcat. It is an F4F-4 with the wing fold panel line correctly done on C1's. This is the one I have but now I wish I got O'Hare's F4F-3 without the wing fold for something different than FM's.

Thanks Ara1!

Can you visually confirm that the C1 didn't use the same mold as their pre-war colors Shields/USS Ranger F3F-3 for the Foss F4F as well? Just curious...

Re: Butch O'Hare Wildcat

Lanslide, are you there... ? Would you remind me what those 1:48 threads were ? I do not seem to be able to find them !
I really want to buy a Wildcat but I am at a complet loss when it comes to decide between C1 or FM.

The FM one is available in my local shop, and it looks a far better effort than other FM models. However, it has some completely silly faults like for example the fact that the aiming sight in front of the cockpit, which should be clear plastic, was painted over in the same colour as the fuselage.

I have also heared so much praise for the C1 model too that I wonder what to do. But that one I would have to buy via internet from the US, but I was planning to buy Caldwell's P-40 so maybe I could order both together.

Is there any point in me asking for any advice from you all in the forum ? I mean, I bet 50% of you will reccomend the Carousel 1 model and the other 50% will reccomend the Franklin Mint one, so I could easily end up as confused as before...

I'm assuming he made reference to this thread: FM F4F Wildcat vs. Carousel 1 F4F Wildcat

In a nutshell, the Wildcats from C1 and FM/A both have it's 'plus' and 'minuses'. Buy what you think best suits your requiremnents or tastes. I bought one of each because those two represented different variants, i.e. the C1 Shields Wildcat is an "F4F-3" without the folding wings outline and a pre-war color to boot, and the FM Wildcats are the "F4F-4" variety which do have the upgraded wings fold outline. Maybe this is all very trivial to some, but it does make a whole lot of difference in my book.

Hi Saeta,

Take another look at this thread with my C1 Wildcat. It's one of my best, if not the best diecast in my collection.
