Re: So, what's next for Carousel 1?

You want rivet counting quality but yet you don't want to pay for it. You can't have it both ways.

Rockjock, that is ABSOLUTEY an unfair statement, at least when it comes to me, and you WERE quoting me. I have stated numerous times that I am NOT a rivet counter. I like my Corgi 1:72 Mustangs, for crying out loud!

Re: So, what's next for Carousel 1?

Some sage wisdom there, CC!

To me, if I see something I like I would probably buy it without equating it to how much it cost. I'm just too easy to please I suppose.

Personally I just wish I had deep enough pockets to pick up everthing that looked half way good.

Re: So, what's next for Carousel 1?

I do have one of their models, and I would not define it as rivet quality. I find it to be on par to the HM Buffalo with maybe a slight edge to the Buffalo. I do find my C1 product to be a nice looking model, but at close to double the price of the other. Further more I could not pick out any appreciable accuracy or quality advantage to the more expensive model, which one might expect to find. So the remark of not wanting to pay for detail may not be quite accurate and to a point not warranted. The question might be better fraised, "Do diecast collecters as whole, have a certain dollar amount they do not normally exceed in their diecast purchases". There does seem to be some holes in that logic in that certain diecast models though pricey, tend to sell rather well.

I don't think we can compare HMs price point since we all know that HM came into 1/48 drastically underpriced..
I think we will soon see a price correction from HM (as per previous models) to a reasonable level and more inline with their competitors..

Well if prices go up as you say, then I was able to get into some significantly nicely detailed and acurate models for a really sweet price. If what you suggest is true, you might think that Hobby Master might keep their prices down a bit longer to strengthen their foothold in the market. To be honest I must have missed thread regarding how their initial models were underpriced.

With the Spitfire, we saw a price hike of about $10.00 from the Buffalo. I think the Panther is being priced in the same area as C1 (69.95ish).

Re: So, what's next for Carousel 1?

This is getting to be a scary time for the 1:48 collector....
I really don't want to see FM and HM be the only ones making 1:48's.
JP

I couldn't agree more, JP. I wish the 1:48 market would be big enough for all diecast makers of 1:48 aviation models. Lets not forget that Corgi has entered the market with this scale. In a few months, it will have more molds on the market than EI and HM. But, I suspect, the 1:48 market is not yet big enough for five manufacturers competing for collectors interests. Last year I posted a concern than EI would get squashed by the 800 lb. gorilla in the room (FM). Mark then chimed in that EI was healthy and moving forward with anticipated molds. I hope this is still the case, but we haven't heard from Mark for a long time now.
