Re: So, what's next for Carousel 1?

Makes me wonder if Carousel didn't get nixed by HM in making the Spitfire or something like that and that is why they are so hush-hush regarding anything.. I'd hate to see C1 back out of the A/C market, but such a move might open the market more for someone like Eagles Intl. to continue on..

This is getting to be a scary time for the 1:48 collector....
I really don't want to see FM and HM be the only ones making 1:48's.
JP

I absolutely agree with you JP . Carousel 1 & Eagles Int. models are far superior to anything that FM and HM can put out at this stage.

I'm extremely concerned that we'll eventually lose the likes of quality products (from 'niche' manufacturers that lack deep pockets), such as those produced by C1 & EI, in favour of 'cheaper' 1/48 products that will only remain 'cheap' until the manufacturers thereof have frightened the competition away and have gained a monopoly on the market ...

If I could only choose two manufacturers to continue with 1/48 it would, without a doubt, have to be Carousel 1 and Eagles Int. .

I don't know if this would be a plus or not, but if Carousel One stopped making planes, we would probably see these wholesale dumped pretty quick since retailers wouldn't be contractually bound to sell at a certain price anymore..

'Dumping' FM products I understand, but Carousel 1 - that just wouldn't be right ...

Inventory sitting on the shelf is never a good thing. It still begs the asking, Why? There is much praise on these threads about the quality, but for some reason they are not moving so well. Could it be a price issue or is it in regards to what they are putting out.

I know I'd buy more of them if the price wasn't so high.

I tend to lean in that direction too. To be honest, I just do not see that great a jump in quality, as compared to some of the more moderately priced models. If they made something like a Me 163, would that have enough wow factor to justify a purchase, maybe. I am just curious if they have ever considered a price cut to move their stagnant inventory.

You want rivet counting quality but yet you don't want to pay for it. You can't have it both ways.

Quick footnote; Frank Dalton's willingness to communicate is prima facie evidence that he cares and that good things WILL HAPPEN!!!! Bad things are always preceded by a lack of response,IMHO.... Mike

I do have one of their models, and I would not define it as rivet quality. I find it to be on par to the HM Buffalo with maybe a slight edge to the Buffalo. I do find my C1 product to be a nice looking model, but at close to double the price of the other. Further more I could not pick out any appreciable accuracy or quality advantage to the more expensive model, which one might expect to find. So the remark of not wanting to pay for detail may not be quite accurate and to a point not warranted. The question might be better fraised, "Do diecast collecters as whole, have a certain dollar amount they do not normally exceed in their diecast purchases". There does seem to be some holes in that logic in that certain diecast models though pricey, tend to sell rather well.

Some sage wisdom there, CC!

To me, if I see something I like I would probably buy it without equating it to how much it cost. I'm just too easy to please I suppose.
