Re: So, what's next for Carousel 1?

Why do people always want the same old airplanes done i am so sick of p51's p 38's p47's how something in 1/48th scale that no one else makes theer are so many to choose from a few off the top of my head F3F biplane skyraider p-39 -63 f8f bearcat hawker typhoon p 61 avenger helldiver yak-3
lockheed hudson douglas A 20 OS2U kingfisher

these would be something NEW and not the same old rehashed plane

Firstly, I admit I don't care for FM's. I have a few because I wanted the pilot or the livery but they aren't in the same class as the EI and Carousel 1 as I am trying to be more selective I am willing to wait. With that being said, I agree previously undone aircraft would be fantastic but I don't see Carousel 1 doing something like that with their next issue for a couple of reasons. Carousel 1 is primarily a diecast car company and are just getting into the aircraft side of things much like GMP which only offers P-51s and P-40s. Hobby Master excepted, when companies start a new line they usually hit the tried and true aircraft with a following to determine interest and for that you can't beat the Mustangs, Spits, 109s, etc. The fact that they started a WWI line is great but I think it makes it a tad less likely they'll expand their WWII offerings much beyond the icons anytime soon as that would be a bit more risk than they are likely to undertake at once. Secondly, we come back to the livery issue. If they are going to create a new mold with the level of detail they are known for they are going to need a pretty fair number of liveries available to keep the mold viable for a long time. I don't know a great deal about the nuances of naval liveries in WWII but I wouldn't think there is a lot of variety for the Bearcat, Avenger, Helldiver etc when they are just rolling out the Wildcat in the naval arena. So, as mostly a 1/48 and greater scale collector, I would like to see one of my favorite manufacturers put out aircraft that will enable them to stay in the game and improve the quality of my collection overall. Hopefully that will allow us to see the lesser known aircraft produced by Carousel 1 in the future. I just think it is too soon for them to take that risk but I could be wrong.

Re: So, what's next for Carousel 1?

I did some checking around about this and i was told that the 2007 list is all their doing this year.
I was hoping 1 or 2 more would come out this year.
We have to wait and see for 2008....If that is the case Carousel has cut back on how many planes they put a year now.

Re: So, what's next for Carousel 1?

I would like to see them do a good quality P-51D, but I would first like to see them do a Helldiver, P-39, Avenger, OS2U, A-20, and P-61. I never bought the whole not enough color schemes thing. I think that is a way of just not doing it. There are not a ton of different options for the Corsair, but everyone makes one. I think that if you are in the diecast game, then you need to suck it up, and make some planes.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Well, everyone makes the Corsair except Hobby Master, Gemini, GMP, EI, Carousel 1... .

It seems to fall under the previous discussions of what motivates you to collect. You have a sweet collection Chris and a lot of different models of the same or similar aircraft appeals to you which is cool. For me, I am so schizo on my hobbies - models, guitars, motorcycles, eating, etc - I have become a bit more selective in what I buy lately. I would agree that if the casting is lights out they could probably get away with fewer choices but it doesn't seem that the diecast industry is raking in the cash these days so they are shying away from too many risks (once again excepting our beloved HM it seems).

In the end, whatever they bring out in 2008 if JP is right will probably end up on my shelves at some point. I am getting ready to pull the trigger on the Foss Wildcat and hope I will be as happy as I am with the Doras, 109s and P-40s.

I see what you mean. I just think that if they make a model that no one else makes, like the above, they will make a ton of cash. The C1 Wildcats are very nice. I have two of them.

Re: So, what's next for Carousel 1?

This is the email i got from Mr.Dalton President of Carousel.

John,
I appreciate your kind words; you have made my day.
I've been fascinated by aircraft and models for fifty years, because my
father and several of his best friends flew in the USAAF during the Second
World War. It is strange to realize that I was closer to WW1 in the late
1950's than we are to WW2 now.
We do our best to make the most authentic and best detailed aircraft models
we can at an affordable price. Please spread the news, and please consider
purchasing some models from Apollo, because they are the direct retail arm
of Carousel 1, and we need the money. Apollo ships all over the world.
Due to a number of factors, we will not have any more aircraft models
released in the next few months, and it is uncertain whether new aircraft
model releases will resume in late 2007 or early 2008. However, exciting
things are coming because we have two new aircraft types whose tooling is
already finished. If you would check on the Apollo website every month or
two you would find the best information.

Thanks for your interest in Carousel 1 models.

Best regards,
Frank Dalton
President, Carousel 1 & Apollo

Very interesting. I am sure the two new types with finished tooling that Mr. Dalton mentioned will soon start a speculation frenzy. Thanks for posting JP!

Re: So, what's next for Carousel 1?

Two new toolings??? I wonder if they'll be "tooling" a stand to go with these???
I am interested to see what Carousel will produce next but I am disappointed that we'll have to wait so long to see them in person..

I have tried many times to email Carousel, but their contact info doesn't work.. Glad to hear you got thru JP...
