I have to somewhat agree with Skunky on this. With a 1:48 plane the stand does appear to overwhelm the model just a bit (I wouldn't consider using them for anything less in scale unless it was a 1:72 heavy bomber). The 4 inch stand is not bad, but the 6 inch, without the other plane next to it, does look a little overboard. I think using a larger scale, 1:32 or larger as suggested by Harry, would make them the perfect choice for getting the models off the ground. My 1:32 Corgi Spit looked great on it.
So this was an experiment with mixed results. I had not heard of them and ran across them while searching for a generic model stand. I think they are a great purchase but you need to be aware of scale when deciding upon the model you want to use in it.
And Cardinal, I agree that the EI stands are hard to beat.
| I've never cared much for these stands...They seem to overpower the subject, and my eye tends to focus more on the stand itself, rather than the model it's supporting. Too many arms going off in all different directions. Aesthetically (for me anyway) an aircraft model should be supported at one point only, and the stand should "blend in" with the model with a thin, aerodynamic look to it.
I guess my one and only Carousel will just remain firmly grounded for now anyway. |
