Re: Next for Carousel???

Was the first release BF109 as good as the Doras and P40s?

I'm sure the answer to this question varies from collector to collector. It's a high bar to be "as good" as the Doras and the P-40; I don't think the 109 was "as good" but certainly not bad.

Re: Next for Carousel???

In reference to Armour Collection Spitfires--I have several AC Spits, and I really like them quite a bit, especially the Mk.V models. I have read from posts by Spitfire purists that the AC Mk.I and Mk.II versions have some inaccuracies, but the finish, paint, and markings on my CDC I and II's are very nice indeed, so I'm satisfied with them. I guess my favorites of the 9 AC spits that I have are the Clive Caldwell RAAF Mk.Vc, the Duperier Mk.V, the Daly USAAF Mk.V, the USAAF Mk.Vc in desert colors, and the Mk.Ia of Alan Deere in BOB livery. Having said that, I still would prefer another manufacturer such as Carousel or Hobbymaster, etc. would do the Mk.IX version simply because of FM's hit or miss track record as of late. ---Happy collecting, markko

Hi markko! 9 FM Spits and what, 7 Hurricanes? What else do you have from FM? I'd love to see pictures of your collection posted, when you have time and the inclination.

Personally, I also like my 2 CDC/FM Spits (Mk Vs) and 2 Hurricanes, despite the small inacuracies. But if someone does better, I'm standing by to upgrade...

Re: Next for Carousel???

I am with FVD, I like my FM Spitfire and Hurricane as well. I also have the Corgi Lane Spit, and a Hurricane as well. Great models. I would rather see C1 go after the Typhoon or Tempest.

Oh, yeah, these two would be sweet in 1/48. I agree that even though C1 might do better than FM on certain already existing models, I'd want to see new types done first.

I was ecstatic when C1 announced their Doras (I'd been waiting for that type a LONG time!), and I have two right now. Typhoon and Tempest are high on my list, as is P-39!

Re: Next for Carousel???

P-39 would be awsome. I worked on the restoration of one, and since then been in love with them. I wirked on the real Snooks 2nd for a while.

I have all of the Carousel 109s and they are equal (if not better) to the P-40s, but not as good as the Doras, but the Doras came later and the details were improved..

Thanks for the info gentlemen, Good info is always very welcome and much appreciated.
I like these 1/48 scale planes but display space is a huge problem. I dont like to leave my planes in boxes, I like to see them all displayed and enjoy them. If only I could build up the enthusiasm to do that loft conversion. Be that as it may I would say that the P39 comes under the heading of must have.

Oh BTW, I looked on the Carousel sight and noted that the Galland is due soon so that will be my BF109 example, the only one and no more . Now if I keep saying that to myself perhaps I can stick to it??????????????????????????????????????

If I am not mistaken, Mark has already alluded to Eagles doing a Typhoon. Here's crossing my fingers!

Well, I'm flattered by the attention, being new to the forum and all, but unfortunately, I'm not very adept at computer skills, and have had no experience with digital cameras (although my wife does have a low priced model). Sometime in the foreseeable future I'll try to somehow get some images out there. Dave and Sally at Aikens have seen "film" photos of my collection at our annual "EAA Oshkosh reunion" as have the owners of a couple of hobby stores that I frequent. So for the time being, I guess you guys will just have to trust me on the content of my collection (ADDICTION) and know that I really enjoy interacting with and following the comments of folks ( in this forum ) who really have the same interests and vastly more knowledge of aircraft history than myself. ---Happy collecting, markko

markko, we trust you, don't worry. It's just that some of us really enjoy seeing personal collections when possible.

I'm glad to have an additional 1/48 collector in the forum. The majority is inclined towards 1/72 (there's a poll to prove it!), and they have good reasons for that, but a few of us like 1/48 better, at the very least for WW II fighters... So we always get exited when someone announces a new casting (or potential new casting) in 1/48. I hope that with HM, EI and Carousel on board, we'll start getting more choices than just FM.
