Re: Next for Carousel???

Now that the last Dora has arrived, is there any news regarding new releases?? (Other than the upcoming Tri-planes)..

Speaking of the Tri-planes, do any of you have one? If so, what do you think?

Re: Next for Carousel???

I agree... MORE LUFTWAFFE!!!

Anything, but LUFTWAFFE. I also second a motion for Japanese, Italian or Soviet designs. Given the low production numbers for Carousel 1 models, I think that it'll be perfect niche for Carousel 1 and provide reasonable explanation for high price tags.

Re: Next for Carousel???

The two Bf 109's are my top choices because of the Aces and paint schemes.

I would like to see a Sturmovik (which I believe was the most produced aircraft of WW II) and also the Yak-3 thru 9 and the La-5-7 Russian fighters.

I would have to agree that the lack of 1/48 Soviet die-cast aircraft is something of a travesty. There are some striking liveries that would be very suitable for Soviet aircraft like the Il2, Yak3-9 and La 5-7 and I suspect that they would sell exceptionally well, given the chance ...

(Just for the sake of interest, why won't EI come to this particular party? )

As a biggest fan of the Soviet WWII aircraft, I have to admit that Il2, Yak3-9 and La 5-7, etc. will sell well among the collectors and aviation aficionados like us, but I'm not sure that the average collector will snap them up. This is why I think Carousel 1 with its high price tag, but very well made product is a perfect candidate to get the ball rolling. I have no problems shelling $70US on 1:48 IL-2 or even Yak-1b fighter made to Carousel 1 standards, but I absolutely refuse to pay $20 - $25USD for substandard IXO Jr. models even if they are the only game in town.

Sergey

The reason we don't see much in the Russian/Japanese market is "lack of interest".. Now, before some fly off the handle, hear me out...

Russian/ Japanese military vehicles traditionally don't sell well.. Yes, the "niche" buyers will scarf up the 1st release or two, but the releases after that stagnate.. A prime example of this is the Zero, even the 1st releases sold well, but still sit on store shelves today to the point that they almost can't be given away.. A manufacturer has to have atleast 3-4 good selling releases of a particular piece to make it worthwhile and many just don't want to take the chance.. Believe it or not, manufacturers aren't in this for the sport, they are in it to make money and if they don't think something will sell well, they won't touch it..
I have been nudging EI to make an "adversary" piece, and I have built a few prototypes for them, but the owner feels that there are too many good allied planes to make first, so the German stuff gets put on the back burner, much to my dismay..

Excuse my ignorance Sergey, but how well developed is the market for die-cast collecting in Russia and the former Soviet states/republics? Surely good quality 1/48 IL2s , for example, could be marketed there ... ???

Re: Next for Carousel???

German aircraft always sell well and i like to see Carousel make a Hartmann 109 to go with my Galland 109 and see some more of the WWI fighter as well.
Elmer asked how good are the WWI aircraft it's about as good as your gonna get and they are outstanding diecast as well.
Remember too these planes weren't metal either..All made of wood and fabric so Carousel even rigged the planes..Except for the FlyBoys set because they were sold at a lower price.
I think it be cool to mold a diecast WWI fighter to look like fabric .
I have all my WWI fighters at my fathers house at this time since he like them more then i do.

Agreed.. German stuff is an almost guaranteed seller.. Same reason new manufacturers always come out with the same 3 planes (Mustang, Spitfire, Bf-109) They are guaranteed to sell unless the manufacturer royally screws them up (Aeroart)..

My personal preference in pieces I'd like to see are as follows:

Bf 109-G6 or later (tulip versions especially)
Fw-190A8 or later (reich defense especially)
Typhoon/Tempest
Spitfire/Seafire MkXIV or later (HM is supposed to be making a MkXIV)
Arado 196 floatplane

Heck, I'd even go for a Val, Kate or George..
