Re: 7143 Focke-Wulf Fw 190D "Dora-13" Major Franz Götz

The first time I saw Yellow 10 was when it was based out of Falcon Field, Mesa AZ at the Champlin Fighter Museum. I was lucky enough to be on there when they were working on the engine; I thought I was lucky just to see the bird but to get a rare chance to hear it come alive was amazing.

Since its relocation to the main gallery at the Museum of Flight in Seattle it has given me a better opportunity to photograph the plane but I am really excited to see how it is going to be displayed in its new home.

The Dora was to only piece of Mr. Champlin's collection that he did not sell to the Museum of Flight I guess when one of the founders of Microsoft wants a plane he can make a VERY good offer.

Re: 7143 Focke-Wulf Fw 190D "Dora-13" Major Franz Götz

Theres big news for fans of Yellow 10, Paul Allen, has purchased the plane and will be moving it from its current location at the Museum of Flight in Seattle to Paine Field, Everett, WA. when the Flying Heritage Collections new location opens in spring of 2008.

In addition to Yellow 10 three other Luftwaffe fighters are being restored including a Fw 190A-5, Bf 109E-3 & Me 262A-1a

Mr Allens collection is truly one to behold for not only for fans of warbirds but anyone who loves aviation. The collection includes some of the rarest most note worthy aircraft of WWII many of which can not be seen anywhere else in the US.

This new museum will add to the already amazing collection of planes already on display in the Pacific Northwest.

Tillamook Naval Air Station Museum, Tillamook OR (Blimp Hangar) - 18 warbirds + many more
Evergreen Aviation Museum McMinnville, OR, (Spruce Goose) - 16 warbirds + many more
Museum of Flight, Seattle WA - 12 warbirds + many more
Olympic Flight Museum Olympia, WA - 5 warbirds + many more

Great news and thanks for all the intel and info, rdenham. It will be such a thrill to be able to stop by at these museums whenever I travel to Oregon and WA state.

flyXwire, I live in a suburb of Portland OR, if your in my neck of the woods let me know I volunteer at the Evergreen Aviation Museum and never pass up a good excuse to visit a air museum.

We also have a jet museum taking shape at the Hillsboro airport a large corporate, general aviation and flight-training airport located just outside of Portland OR

The ‘Classic Aircraft Aviation Museum’ has quite a few planes all of which fly or are on their way to returning to were they belong.

MiG-17
MiG-21
F-86
F-104G
TF-104G
Jet Provost Mk 4
And 2 A-26C’s

Oh and we also have some great stores which die-cast for those of you who like that sort of thing.

Best diecast of the year beneath the Corgi Swordfish Taranto attack. I got all 3 1/48 FW 190 from Carousel and they are the best of the best. Carousel did an outstanding paint joband i dont understand why Carousel 1 models are so underrated, especially when you see the price and then compare to Corgi. The only negative thing is that they dont deliver a display stand with the model. Does anybody know why they dont include a stand? Why a display base? I guess many people have displayed there models on a stand. Are there rumours what Carousel 1 will do next (New announces or something)?

I heard directly from a retailer that the good folks at C1 actually thought we could hang the models from our ceilings if we wanted them in flight mode... yes, hang heavy metal 1:48 models from our ceilings. Apparently they think it would cost too much to produce a stand to sell stand alone at this point. I've been using Marushin stands which work okay, but they are not exactly what I'd call cheap.

I haven't heard that one, hang them from the ceiling. What I was told first hand from the owner of C1 was to display them in the flying mode by placing them of a Wine glass. He said they even looked into making some purchases of a cheap Wing glass that they could sell for a stand. This blew me away. Such a great plane with such a lame idea for a stand.

First-time poster, thought I'd report that Yellow 10 looks great at Paul Allen's "Flying Heritage Collection".

Just visited the museum/collection for the first time on Saturday, really a great spot for anyone who liked warbirds. Missed the P-51 and P-47 flying 2 weeks ago, but saw their Spitfire Mk. V and Storch go up on Saturday. Great, simple museum layout. Opens at 10, I got there just after the door opened, not too crowded but progressively more people until they open the big hangar doors at noon, have a little intro to the pilots flying that day, then fire up the planes and taxi them out to the Paine Field runway while you go around to a viewing area where they do flybys.
