Re: Focke-Wulf Fw 190D "Dora-13" Major Franz Götz

I've been looking forward to this and will most probably buy one in a couple of months (some other die-cast priorities first).

Looking at the pictures, it seems superb, but it doesn't have the 'wow' factor (i.e. mojo) for me that the 'Red 4' version has .

Card,
I picked mine up today and it is awesome!!!
Now, in saying this, I do think that "Red 4" edges it in the "wow factor", but I think "Yelllow 10" is right up there in my top 5 favorites and #2 from Carousel..

Am I nuts? Do you actually need to ask ...

Let me qualify myself - it has got both 'mojo' and the 'wow' factor but not as much as Red 4, which I still think is #1.

It'll have to settle for #3 position in my 1/48 collection as the #2 spot is currently filled by the P51B/C Ina the Macon Belle from EI .

Only slightly nuts then??

Actually, I probably agree with you (except my number 1 is EI Patty Ann II and my #2 is C1 Dora Red 4)

FVD,
I find the landing gear a slight eyesore if looking at the bottom of the aircraft, but it is probably a necessary evil to assure the angle and rake of the landing gear is reliable and the plane won't collapse under its own weight..

Carousel has become my favorite manufacturer of Luftwaffe aircraft as I have all the ones produced so far..

My major "irk" with Carousel is the lack of an inflight stand and the resistance of Carousel's owner to offer one, because he thinks we should all hang them from the ceiling..

ditto (except I don't have all the Luftwaffe models and I also HATE the rubber guns and aerials)

Pappy,
I agree that the Carousel stuff is a little pricey for what you get, and to be honest, if EI had went ahead with their Dora, I would have much preffered it to Carousel...
But I do like Carousels stuff (particularly their Luftwaffe pieces) and I purchased them mainly for the great job they did and the unique subjects..
EI is great for what they do and their pricing is fair, but they aren't interested in making German stuff yet, so I buy the next best thing, although at a little higher price for the value..

ditto again (except I wasn't crazy for the 109). Pappy... I like C1's Dora more than its P-40 (which I know you have), and I really like the P-40. The positionable canopy on the Dora is a nice feature not offered on the P-40. And yes, the Doras come with the bases, similar to the P-40 (which I don't care for either).

My Dora 13 has landed and it's very nice and one of the best Dora's i have seen in 1:48.
The swazi was already on there i did not have to put it on like my others.
The bottom is really bare metal too it looks just like the real plane was.
I love it....to me this is a toss-up between the Red4 ...It's that good once you see this in person.

I fully agree with you on this, they detract from what are otherwise great models (metal attachments on EI and FM models seem sturdy enough and are not prone to breakage).

Re: 7143 Focke-Wulf Fw 190D "Dora-13" Major Franz Götz

Mine arrived yesterday and I am pleased to report it is AWESOME... equally as awesome as the D-11 Red 4. The guns and pitot tube on the D-13 were a bit more wonky than my D-11, but I was able to retrain them somewhat. For those of you wondering which one to get, I am afraid you will just have to get both!!

I am impressed with the outstanding finish work on these models. The paint jobs are incredible; pictures do them justice, but they are breathtaking in the flesh. Now we need stands C1!!!! I am tempted to try JP's idea with the inflight display stand, but I just can't touch the thing with a drill... not yet anyway. I can hardly wait for the next C1 Dora -- another Galland Circus (D-9) would be great!

I had been considering getting this model (EI Patty Ann II) for a while - your comment convinced me . I have to admit it's an exceptionally good piece of die-cast and I'm extremely happy with it .

Funny... because your comments about Ina caused me to look closer at it for purchase! I haven't done it yet, but is sure looks sweet!
