Carousel1 Nieuport

I received my Carousel1 "Norman Prince" Nieuport 11 this past Thursday. What a beauty, tho with one slight problem-the machine gun on the upper wing is off slightly, is not pointed dead ahead as it should be. But other than that, I cannot say enough good things about it, with it's rigging, flying wires, wood-look propeller with a rorary engine that actually rotates with the prop, and a nicely detailed rotary engine at that! The hub of the prop is properly painted-all in all just a fantastic job was done.

Of course, when one looks at the price, all of the above should be expected, so I do not know how many of these gems I should, or can, afford, but I'll have a hard time staying away! If you like WW 1 aircraft, you really owe it to yourself to get one of these. If the spousal unit objects, blame it on ol' Captain Eddie!

Re: Carousel1 Nieuport

Uncle!

I must see photos of these bi-planes.

Captain,

If you and your fellow two-winged collectors can post some good pics of these I'd appreciate it. Rigging detail etc... Seems in the magazine photos (Aviaiton History) they look a little plasticy. I know the pilots are so so.

Thanks

The pictures never seem to do the Carousel I aircraft justice, but they really are quite well done and don't come across at all plasticy. They may just be overdoing the lighting when they shoot these or something, but the fininsh is much more subtle in person.

Re: Carousel1 Nieuport

No way on the "plastic" look. These are beautiful (both Nieuport 11s). I passed on thr Red Baron.( I already have about 15 various models of BVR!) I hope Carousel1 does other Dr-1s. I'll get those. Does the Fokker have the same appeal & quality as the "Bebes"?.....The only thing wrong are the facelss pilots!

Re: Carousel1 Nieuport

Gentlemen, if any of you are getting the less expensive movie set and decide you don't need 3 examples of each model please consider selling one of your Nieuports to me. I have lots of Spads and Fokkers and would love to have at least one of a different type to accentuate the collection. Thanks.

Re: Carousel1 Nieuport

Hi, Parsig,

Regarding your # 2 post: Sorry, I must have missed that till just now. I have NO idea how to post pictures, and do not even have a digital camera, tho our previous host, the Flying Mule, has pics of course.

Also, as Hoverbug states, the livery is very nice, does not look plasticy at all. No real sheen to it, much like the MB Spads and Fokkers.

Re: Carousel1 Nieuport

I finally coughed up the big bucks for the Prince Nieuport 11; it arrived via UPS today. What a beautiful little model! My wife didn't object so I don't have to blame ole' Capptain Eddie!

This model is packed with exquisite detail: full rigging, a beautifully detailed rotary engine, nice cockpit detail, windscreen, rubber rotating tires, nicely painted rockets, and how about that prop! Wow! From the hub to the tip of the blades, I have never seen a propellor so nicely done... the simulated wood look could fool anyone; it also spins nicely.

Carousel 1 really shines with fit and finish and this model is no exception. There are no glaring gaps or seams, the paint / graphics are equal to the standards of C1s Dora line; in sum, the finish detail is first rate, very professional. The craftsmanship at C1 is impressive, and this model is "proof in the pudding" that C1 puts a lot of TLC into its models.

I highly recommend the model, even at its current retail price. When a model exudes this level of craftsmanship, I don't mind paying "the big bucks" (but I won't be collecting the entire line either!) Now it is time to save my pennies for a Dr.1.

Re: Carousel1 Nieuport

I'll just reinforce all the comments above. I received the Baracca Nieuport and the Werner Voss Dr.1 three days ago, and they are superb. I do wish they were priced a bit lower, but considering the dearth of WW I diecast models on the market now, these can't be bypassed even at the current asking price, IMHO.

Now I seriously considering replacing my MP Red Barron Dr.1 with a Carousel version, which obviously is much better. It's just a matter of where I set my diecast money spending priorities (I've got my eyes on a few other models too...).

Re: Carousel1 Nieuport

Viper, the Carousel1 IS much better than the MP Fokker, but if you could get ahold of a Matchbox Fokker, you might be well pleased. They lack any rigging, but have better detail otherwise than the MP, and the finnish is much more flat. I have a Matchbox Fokker, and do not plan to spend the big bucks on a Carousel as I am pleased with the Matchbox, especially for the money.

Thanks for the tip, Captain Eddie. In fact, I have a Matchbox Spad XIII (Frank Luke) and like it a lot, so you might just be right. I'll look into it.
