Re: Galland, Werner, Von Werra -- oh my!

Yes, the nose guns should be slightly staggered, and as the wingroot/paint issue goes, some were painted, some were not.. The only way to prove a plane had the root painted would be to find a picture of it.. I have a good pic of "Black 8", but that is the only one I have (wing root NOT painted)..

I did a google search for Schroer's 109 to see if I could learn its sub-variant designation. I came up with Tamiya's kit (which is a Schroer "Black 8") which gives the designation of E-7 Trop. I know this is a Trop variant, but does anyone know if C1's model is an E-7? Harry?

Re: Galland, Werner, Von Werra -- oh my!

Elmer,
The only real difference in the E-7 was that it was fitted for a belly drop tank.. As far as I am concerned, Carousel's Shroer 109 is about as accurate as you are going to get.. I have 3 of the 109E's (Galland, Von Werra, Shroer) and they are great models and great repesentations of the 109E..

Re: Galland, Werner, Von Werra -- oh my!

My sentiments exactly Pappy. The 109 mold is inferior to the P-40 and the Dora: at 1:48 Carousel should/could have given it more detail. Regarding the staggered guns, I built a Tamiya 109E and the guns are staggered on that kit, very similar to Carousel's attempt; I am assuming this is correct, Tamiya is a stickler for accuracy. Don't let the 109 discourage you about the Dora though, it is fabulous! The detail is much better and the panel lines are crisp and realistic looking.

I think your right the Me 109 is not as good as the fw 190D

True, but the Dora came later.. As its 1st attempt at 1.48 aircraft, Carousels still beats Franklins, hands down..

No argument here with that sentiment!

So... Harry, C1's Schroer is an E-7?

BTW, I decided to purchase Schroer's 109 1) for the livery; 2) because it is a bit different with the tropical filter and the closed spinner, and 3) because I thought my original assessment of C1's effort may have been harsh. I am happy to report that on reasons 1 and 2 above I couldn't be happier. The livery is beautiful and C1's finish work is OUTSTANDING; in fact, I think this release (as far as outstanding finish work) is on a par with the D-11 and D-13 (excepting that the 109 does not have a pad printed swasi). Regarding reason 3 above, the overall mold is great, but I still believe the castings from this mold are not as detailed (and panel lines as crisply done) as the P-40 and Dora. Nevertheless, the Schroer model does have a WOW factor to it--with the mottled camo, red and white spinner, white wall tires, and beautiful pad printed graphics. The "leopard" emblem is just toooooo cool. If only the swasi had been pad printed; oh well, time to break out the Micro Sol and Micro Set.

Re: Galland, Werner, Von Werra -- oh my!

I have the C1 Schroer 109 and the Cladwell P-40 to go with it. Both great models, and it's nice to have models of two aircraft that actually had an encounter in real combat, in this case with an interesting/unusual outcome.

I like all my C1 models (WW II and WW I) and just wish they would come out with more new moulds soon...

Re: Galland, Werner, Von Werra -- oh my!

I have Von Werra's plane, and rate the model as very good: overall shape and proportions are spot-on, and everything looks right (even if surface detail is a bit sparse...).

However, my model has the silliest of errors I've ever seen on an aircraft model, which may be just my sample, as none of you has mentioned it before - on each wing, the gun barrel is perpendicular to the leading edge, and so the guns are not parallel to each other (guns are aimed in divergent directions, no way Von Werra could down a single aircraft that way!).

Since the guns are rubber they seem to point in all different directions on all three of C1 109s... If only the germans had to endure this on the real mccoys!

Re: Galland, Werner, Von Werra -- oh my!

Thanks, PappyB.

Hope that can be corrected somehow... My virtual 1/48 Von Werra always looks like this when returning from a mission. Must be attempts at aiming both wing guns simultaneously!
