Galland's 109

I know pros and cons of Carousel's model of Galland's 109 was probably covered in MH1, but for those of you who have it (I don't--but am interested), I am interested in your opinions.

What do you think of the yellow nose? Is the paint too thin? Also, are the nose guns placed into recessed holes, or are they molded and painted (like Dragon's and Gemini's 1/72 models)? Can anyone post pics with relative close-ups of the nose area?

Thanks!

Re: Galland's 109

Camera is MIA. Paint is thin but in my opinion probably more realistic. The base color does not come through in any areas but you know it is there (if that makes any sense). The guns are molded in and painted black. These planes were serviced in the field and not very often in hangers of any sort, so I doubt that the quality of the paint job was anywhere near the top of the priority list. Looks wise, I place this as one of the top Me 109's out there right now and I have the Corgi's, Dragons and Witty's in my collection.

Re: Galland's 109

I've got a bunch of pics of the model, here, with some shots that show the molded guns. Paint's not thin on my particular model, just a bit of overspray where the yellow nose meets the camo, which I wouldn't doubt looked worse on the real deal than on this model..

I agree that it's one of the best-looking 109s out right now, and much more reasonable to pick up than Corgi's Galland .

Hey Pappy, I think he's talking about the Carousel 109, not the Gemini..

Until you mentioned this, I had not looked carefully at the nose. I've got this bird- my only one- but have not unpacked and displayed it yet. You inspired me to pull it out and take a gander. The green tape behind the pilot, btw, is packing tape I have not removed yet.

Yellow nose paint is thin- you can make out the underlying camo splotches just barely. Not sure if this is accurate. Perhaps the yellow was applied to the cowl in the field on occasion. I'll leave that to the 109 experts on the forum.

The thin yellow does not detract from what otherwise is a beautiful model, imho. The nose guns are molded and recessed, which looks pretty sharp for this scale.

Here are a few pics I snapped for you to consider. Hope this helps.

Re: Galland's 109

Your right about the paint being a little thin i just went over to my fathers house this morning to look at his and it's the same as OldCrows pictures.
I know this was painted yellow while out in the field so i was thinking it could be right having the camo showing on the yellow a little.
Unless they painted it with a light grey primer first then yellow.
Yellow is such a light color without a white or grey undercoat the camo can be seen a little.

Re: Galland's 109

I was so freaked out by the appearance of that yellow paint job when I first
got mine that I e-mailed Carousel-1 about it. The owner, Frank Dalton,
replied that it was meant to be that way--the Germans didn't care about
pretty out in the field, just being able to i.d. their own aircraft in the air.
