Re: Galland's 109

My opinions of the CAROUSEL 1 Galland - just to be clear - is it is a fantastic model. It has fantastic heft and the paint looks great. As you can see from the photos you can see the camo beneath but this seems very accurate to me. It is hard to tell in the photos from the books I have and it may be psychological inference at this point but in some of the photos I sense a similar appearance on many of the aircraft. As this was applied in the field it seems perfectly reasonable to be the case just as the haphazard invasion stripes on allied aircraft when they first received orders to add them.

As for other points on the model - I love the magnetic gear. It fits quickly, snuggly and supports the model very well. I also like the molded rubber armament. I have had no problems with them warping or bending and I feel a bit less concerned about breaking them off if I ever had to fiddle with them. I would like a bit more cockpit detail for the price but all in all I really like it.

Re: Galland's 109

Until you mentioned this, I had not looked carefully at the nose. I've got this bird- my only one- but have not unpacked and displayed it yet. You inspired me to pull it out and take a gander. The green tape behind the pilot, btw, is packing tape I have not removed yet.

Yellow nose paint is thin- you can make out the underlying camo splotches just barely. Not sure if this is accurate. Perhaps the yellow was applied to the cowl in the field on occasion. I'll leave that to the 109 experts on the forum.

The thin yellow does not detract from what otherwise is a beautiful model, imho. The nose guns are molded and recessed, which looks pretty sharp for this scale.

Here are a few pics I snapped for you to consider. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the pics Old Crow!! And thanks for not confusing it with Gemini! Pappy, I almost fell off my seat when you told me to check out your web-site, for a minute I thought you had posted pics of Carousel's Galland!!

Re: Galland's 109

I picked up Carousels Galland 109E today and even though the paint is thin on the cowl (painted in the field, could be thin) it is a terrific piece, and will make a great addition to my existing Carousel stuff..

Picked up the Galland the other day on a field trip to Toronto. Haven't got it out on display yet but it looks great.

Re: Galland's 109

This is one of my first Carousel diecast and I really like it alot. I would buy another A.Galland mount of the Bf 109 if carousel made the F variant.

Re: Galland's 109

I just received both of my Carousel 109's which I got from the Mule's recent inventory sale. I got both the Galland and the Von Werra planes.

Galland 109

As mentioned in previous posts the yellow paint, on both the nose and the tail, does allow for the underlying camo scheme to barely show through. Overspray of the paint is minimal if at all. This is one nice looking bird!

I did find one oddity which was shared by both 109 models. The nose machine guns are staggered (port side gun is longer than the other). Where they like this in the real planes? I didn't see any difference in my Corgi or Dragon 109s.

Von Werra 109

Might as well mention this one too. This plane has a clean and, to me at least, striking color scheme that's beautifully applied. I recommend adding this one to your airfield as well! No complaints at all here.

Gripes

My gripes have more to do with Carousel than with the models

1. Company is not responsive to emails.

2. No stand, yet they provide retractable landing gear.

3. Both of the models are allegedly Limited Editions (1800 for the Galland, 1200 for the Von Werra). I say allegedly because Carousel doesn't include a LE certificate of any kind on the model, paper insert or box.

Those gripes aside, if you can snag them at the $40.00 price point that Mule was selling them for I think you won't regret it. They are both real nice pieces at that price.

Re: Galland's 109

I started this thread with a question about its pros and cons. I recently acquired it from the Mule's inventory reduction; it came yesterday along with the 190D-11. Upon close inspection, I must admit, I was a bit disappointed; I am not as warm to this model as others in this thread have seemed to be. Here's why: 1) the panel lines are not as crisp and realistic looking as Caroulel's effort with the D-11 and the P-40; 2) there is no rivet detail; 3) the guns and aerial are very wonky (can these be straightened???); 4) it lacks some detail that could have been put into it (e.g. air intake areas); and 5) the swastikas have to be applied.

Nevertheless, the paint job is wonderful (I don't mind the thin yellow coat on the nose--I know others especially in the UK forum have complained about this), it sits well on its gear (looks correct to me), and the canopy opens and closes nicely.

Overall, it is not a bad model; my difficulty with it is I keep comparing it's details to Carousel's D-11 and P-40, EI's P-51, and a Tamiya 109E (super detailed!) I built a few years ago. At a distance it sits nicely with these 1/48 models, but up close, it does not.

Re: Galland's 109

Galland's 109 is one of the best there is in 1:48.
I own one now after buying one for my father a few months back at full price.
Once i saw that sale i jumped right at it.
Carousel will only get better as time goes on.
