Re: Flyboys Planes

I still have not got any of mine either.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Thumbs up Re: Flyboys Planes

I received mine about a week ago. They seem like good quality diecast to me, but I do not have any of the regular Carousel planes to compare them to. I only purchased one of the Nieuports and one of the Fokkers. Maybe not all of the variations are completed yet.

Did it come all rigged up?
Or was it just plain with no rigging.

Post Re: Flyboys Planes

The planes have no wire rigging - only the wooden support struts. I'm OK with that, since they are $20 less than the regular Carousel biplanes and otherwise look good. The pilots even look alive.

Re: Flyboys Planes

I got my Flyboys fighters and i'm happy with them.
I'll try to rig them at a later time.
I kept the Nieuport 17's and gave my father the Fokker DR.1's.
I like the Rawlings and Cassidy Nieuports the best.

I use piano wire for this sort of 48th scale rigging. I don’t know the gage I have been using, I just went into a piano store here in Portland and asked about it and they showed me a whole box of various sizes etc. They even gave it to me no charge, as it was repair scrap.
It is very rigid so you just need to measure the lengths needed (I use drafting dividers for this) and glue them in place. It is remarkably simple actually and certainly beats the nylon thread method, which expands, and contracts with temp changes.

Thanks, JC, that is a GREAT idea. Simple, and possibly free! What kind of glue do you use?

Cyno... Cynaace... Oh heck "Super Glue"! One little additional point, the wire can rust if the model is in the wrong climate conditions. To prevent this (if its a concern) use a little "Dull Coat clear". Simply apply a small coating to the wire, not to much though!
This has only been a problem for me once though and it was minor. The model in question was one I had built over 10 years prior so a tad bit of rust on the wire was not surprising.
