What is the scale of Johnny Lioghtnings?

Last edited by 91ken : 04-24-2008 at 06:13 AM. Reason: addendum
I got a Johnny Lightning model that was advertised as 1:64, but it's certainly smaller than other 1:64's I've seen. The packaging does not indicate scale. I have a model of the same car by Jada and it is about 25% bigger in mass (length and width) and that package is clearly marked 1:64.
The JL is not as small as 1:87, but seems somewhere between that and 1:64.
I'm disappointed in the JL because of it's small size.

Anyone know the JL scale? Are they 1:72?

(I know this forum is not meant to deal with these kinds of models, but I'm too lazy to find and join the right one. Someone here probably can give me a quick answer - thanks.)

Edit: I keep forgetting that all I have to do is a little math. It seems to be about 1:69 or 1:70 scale.

Edit#2: It seems neither my JL model nor my Jada model are exactly 1:64. The JL appears to be a little smaller and the Jada a little bigger.
The real-life length of the vehicle is 216 inches. Divided by 64 yields 3.375 inches, the length a 1:64 model should be. The JL model is about 3.125 (a quarter-inch too small) and the Jada is about 3.625 (a quarter-inch too big).

Re: What is the scale of Johnny Lioghtnings?

I love JLs! Out of the 3300 cars in my collection, about 35% are Johnnies. Alas, Johnny Lightnings sufffered from presidential meddling. The former owner, Tom (whose last name I forget at the moment) indicated that all his cars should be approximately the same length, not the same scale. So you have the British Invasion series which are darn near 1/50th, to the M1 Tank which is exactly 1/87th (HO Scale). I knew the end was nigh for JLs when they released their 65/66 Mustang Fastback, and it was a great deal smaller than their coupe or convertible of the same year.

Flexibility is the key to airpower.
Indecision is therefore the key to Airpower.
