Talking Collecting 69 Dodge Chargers.

Does anyone else on the board have a love for the 1969 Dodge Charger? Man I do. And since I cant own the real thing I am starting to get into collecting the diecast versions. There is something about the Charger I love. I dont know if its the shape, design or whatever this car, the 69 version, means pure American Muscle to me. Thats just my veiw anyway. Even as a little kid I loved the Charger. Just recently I came across a guy who took diecast cars and customized them. He had a 69 Charger on Ebay that I bought and heres a little backstory about it for those interested. He literally stripped the paint to bare metal and repainted it what he called "Ice metal flake blue". He super detailed the interior, the engine, replaced the stock tires with Goodyear R/T Magnums with rally rims ect. You name it this guy did it. The only thing he couldnt do was open the trunk. Its my all time favorite 1/18th diecast Charger and I won it Ebay. Actually I stole really for the price. If I ever owned the real thing this is how I would want it to look. At my local hobby shop they have the 1/24th scale Franklin Mint 1969 Charger for $100 bucks. I'm trying to negotiate to have the manager drop the price to $50. Its either a Danbury Mint Charger or Franklin Mint I dont know. But for those who may have seen it the body is painted yellow. From what I understand its super detailed with a trunk that opens and has a spare tire that goes with it. Its been sitting in a display case for like 2 1/2 years now. I want it but $100 bucks is a little steep for me right now so thats why I'm trying to get him to drop the price. So anyone into collecting Chargers? I'm just starting so I have alot of collecting to do.

Re: Collecting 69 Dodge Chargers.

I love the '69 Charger....I used to have a '70 with a 383 hp...I loved that car......'Curious Yellow' with a black bumble bee stripe across the rear ...I still kick myself for selling it.

Mustangdriver has a '69 all done up as the General Lee ......sharp looking car!

'68, red, black bumblebee stripes, 440 Magnum. Was brothers car but I got it in the mid 70's when he moved on to other things. Used to attract lots of attention.

Thumbs up Re: Collecting 69 Dodge Chargers.

Chargers were cool. I owned a 1970 Plum Crazy Challenger and a 1971 yellow Cuda with a 340. Wish I had both cars now. Yes I have alot of diecast Challengers including the new 2008 in Yellow. Thinking of buying one when they hit the dealers this spring.

Re: Collecting 69 Dodge Chargers.

As a kid I loved the General Lee and the Dukes of Hazzard. I never knew what kind of car it was until I was an early teen. After that, I knew I had to get that car some day. My car was once owned by WB but never converted into the General. I bought it, restored it with my father, uncle, and some friends. We had a blast together doing it. I still have it along with my 1966 Mustang fastback. They are strict show cars, but I do drive them in the summer on nice days.

Re: Collecting 69 Dodge Chargers.

I'm thinking of trading my Pontiac Grand Prix GT for a Charger or a Mustang. But as much I love Chargers I am leaning towards getting one of those instead.

Re: Collecting 69 Dodge Chargers.

Are you talking new one or old one. I like the new ones as well.

Re: Collecting 69 Dodge Chargers.

I know, but they aren't bad looking. Most modern cars suck as far as looks go.

Re: Collecting 69 Dodge Chargers.

I guess it's not that bad as far as modern cars go, I just don't think it deserves the "Charger" nameplate...They could have revived the "Diplomat" name for this one..
