Admiral Toys getting into Race Cars ??

I just checked out Admiral Toys web site and saw that they had upcoming 1:24 BMW car on there. It looks to be a FIA World Touring car..
That's a new one.

As a primary collector of 1:18 models cars, I say this move is downright suicidal. For starters, 1:18 scale dominates the scene in the US and gaining popularity worldwide, while 1:43 remains the most popular scale for model cars in the world.

1:24 stuff is primarily focused on American Muscle and Classic Cars as released by Danbury and Franklin Mints, and recently GMP. The dudes who collect those are not interested in racers.

This model is curbside, with no opening features. Furthermore, it has already been modeled (or at least in very similar livery) to a high standard by AutoArt in 1:18 scale.

It seems to me that Admiral is trying to go after the guys who built Tamiya, Fujimi, and Revell kits of racing cars in 1:24 scale. However, I don't think that Admiral will be able to capitalize on that market with just one model (and unimaginative one at that) released. At least a few should be done at once.

All in all, I have nothing against diversification (after all Carousel 1 started out as an Indy 500 model car maker in 1:18 scale), but I think that this move is a wrong one on Admiral's part.

Spark resin models in 1:24 scale are doing very poorly due to the fact that it's not an established scale for built models in regards to European automotive brands and race cars. High price is also a factor.

Regards,

Sergey

Re: Admiral Toys getting into Race Cars ??

Dear Berkut76,

Thank you for your candor in your response to our new line of models.

Let me begin by saying that the 1:24 was a typo by our IT guy, the model is in 1:43. was a typo by our IT guys. The M3 is in 1:43 is the most popular scale for premium models, and we have received a great response with this offering. The M3 is not the only model in production. We have several other offerings that will be made available in the next couple of weeks.

The detail on this model is second to non in our opinion, and was even complemented by Minichamps as one incredible little model. The M3 was first released in the Asian market to judge acceptance. Acceptance was overwhelming. Only 200 were produced and now only 100 will be available for worldwide distribution. I do not think you will be unimpressed by the attention to detail on this model.

Here is a picture of the finished model:

Jason, you need to register on this 1:43 forum (I run the sister 1:18 board): http://pub15.ezboard.com/bautobarnmotorsports

It has the largest hardcore worldwide audience in terms of both, 1:43 mass produced die cast model collectors and 1:43 handbuilt guys. You need to be more aggressive in terms of grass roots marketing, since 1:43 world is much competitive than 1:72 built military models world.

My biggest issue with this model is the livery, which has been produced ad nauseum by Minichamps and IXO. Also, the pricing could be an issue.

As crazy as this may sound, you might do better by making models of privateer teams that ran such chassis in various competitions than the factory livery.

Sergey

Re: Admiral Toys getting into Race Cars ??

I would love to see Admiral make some Formula One race cars mainly the cars of Ferrari where Michael Schumacher reigned supreme for so many years! Ya I'm a huge fan of F1 and Ferrari and of the retired 7 time world champ Schumacher. I cant stand Nascar anymore and every time I see it on tv I want to fall asleep! LOL
