| How old is your oldest model? Hello, I'am Niels from Belgium (europe), and I Collect diecast tanks from minichamp and dragon armor, but also action figures. I'll have at the moment 21tanks (+13 more ordered yesterday). I collect tanks for about 3months now. But I was wondering myself about the quality of these models after several years. I mean, how will our dear collected tanks look like after a couple of years standing in our glass cupboards? What about the colors etc? So my question is, what is your oldest model? And/or are these models showing any 'broken' things, like decals wich come loose after these years? I now, tanks are new to the diecast market, but they aren't the same as diecast cars, which are almost fully made of metal. Thanks in advance Niels Sorry for my bad english, I'll hope you all understands me. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: How old is your oldest model? My oldest models in the collectible category are Solido tanks dating back to the early 1970s. Since the decals on these were poorly applied---apparently without setting solutions---they are quite frayed and sometimes worn through. On the other hand, taking recent diecast aircraft and AFVs---going back about 14 years---I have seen little sign of wear and tear on the decals and, especially, the pad printed markings. The same thing goes for their paint jobs. so far, most have held up well. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: How old is your oldest model? Hello from Singapore, Niels! Great to have you on board! I'm a newbie myself too. My oldest model is a 1:72 Del Prado Spitfire. It's about 3 years old. Since I seriously started building up collection only in the last year, I can't really comment on the wear and tear bit. Because of the high levels of humidity in Singapore, I can't leave them in the open or near any sunlight. In fact, I put my entire collection in a proper glass showcase, which is fast running out of space! | ||||||||||||||

| Re: How old is your oldest model? My "oldest" model is my Wright Flyer, circa 1903......hehehehehehe Seriously, though, it is a diecast metal toy P 40, given to me when I was a kid, circa 1960 to 1965. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: How old is your oldest model? The oldest model I have in my possession is a Topping 1/40 scale F7F Tigercat I recently won in an ebay auction. The thing looks pristine, and dates sometime from the late 1940s, with markings that appear to place it sometime prior to 1947...ie no red in the stars and bars. Runner up is a Topping 1/72 scale F-86 which dates to some time in the early 50s. It is a close depiction of the prototype, with only the Buzz number slightly off, and a slight scraping on it. It also has its original box. I also have an Allyn D558-2 without the box, it appears to be 1/48 or 1/40 scale. I also just acquired a 1/48 scale Allyn F4D that came in its original box. Finally, for original Toppings, I have a 1/48 F8U-3 from the late 50s, though this one does have some decal damage, and lost its starboard side sidewinter fins (the missile is loose and taped at the bottom of its stand.) All these models cost a pretty penny, but they are orginal depictions of historic aircraft from that era. I like them despite their lack of detail when compared to modern aircraft due to the fact that they are pieces of aviation history commissioned by manufacturers that are for the most part gone. Yeah , I remember you building that, it was terrible when those Wright fellas got all the credit. Hi nielsvv, welcome to the forum, your English is fine, no problem. (better than mine). My oldest diecast is a Corgi Qantas Connie. The decals have curled up and dropped off and its only around 10 years old. Belgium eh, I have been many times, a wonderful place to visit. Lorraine was very sad when I stopped doing business trips over there, I always used to come back with a huge box of Belgium chocolates for her. | |||||||||||||||
