Re: Typhoon bites it

Opps....Forgot the gears....
He must of had warning system shut off ..At least he should of seen the green landing gear lights weren't on.
Could be the gears malfunction too.
Glad to see he wasn't hurt.

Re: Typhoon bites it

Here's the best part...."the pilot is unlikely to be sacked even if he was to blame. The RAF cannot afford to lose a flier who cost $5.9 million to train"!!! That's what I call job security! Wish I had that kind of bargaining power!

Re: Typhoon bites it

I always thought that the controller when giving the pilot clearance to land stated "Check wheels down". At least on every plane I have flown, albiet mostly Cessnas and Pipers the landing checklist did state to confirm wheels down. Or the old stand by GUMP...Gas, Undercarrage, Mixture, Prop

Looks like someone did not follow procedure. But, I do hope that the investigation showed the pilot did everything correctly and it turned out to be a gear down malfunction.

Re: Typhoon bites it

Remember lads, there are two kinds of pilots, those who have landed gear up and those who are going to land gear up.

There was probably a gear up warning, but who can think with that blasted horn making all that racket?
I prefer my landing gear down and welded.

Re: Typhoon bites it

The story gave my office colleagues a good laugh on an otherwise uneventful May Day Friday.

It's always good to live through some eventful episodes in our lives so that we have something to remember by and probably share with our grandchildren when we get old.

Wonder how the pilot is going to say this to his future offspring? Worse, if I'm his grand kid, I'll be darned if I realised my grand-dad blew a multi-million dollar kite just like that.
