The Russians are up to their old tricks. There's really nothing to this other than to relive those nostalgic cold war days. Those Bear crews are probably partying in there guzzling Vodkas and dancing the Polkas!

It's just Putin trying show the world the Russians are still relevant...... I guess we shouldn't be surprised at these actions from the former? FSB (KGB) headman.

IMHO, kinda like a kid throwing a tantrum to get attention!

I'll bet it was some "kid" just getting all full of himself and seeing what they could get away with. I really doubt something like that came from a Kremlin directive.

Anything for a weird life.

This isn't a one time incident It used to happen all the time during the Cold War but after the Old Soviet Union collapsed in 1991 the flyovers ceased for awhile. IIRC, The Russian flyovers have only started back up/become more frequent after Putin came to power (and him playing Cold War games to prove to the world that Russia is still strong ). IMHO, He's desperately calling for attention as a way to consolidate his dictatoral power. What better villian than the U.S. at this time?

So the "kid" theory just, pardon the pun, doesn't fly.

Re: Russian bomber buzzes USS Nimitz carrier

Is this really news? Barring going to nukes from the get go, there is only ONE military superpower left in the world. Russia is weak militarily and no showmanship will change that. My only concern is some sort of an accident taking place.

Other than that, everyone is happy, Russian government for "showing its strength", Russian pilots for getting some flying time and keeping their jobs.

Same goes for the US military, and especially defense contractors, which can now justify developing yet another super duper next generation weapons system, which is useless on the streets of Mosul or in the mountains around Khandagar, but will show Ruskies that we mean business if they try something for real.

Regards,

Sergey

Sergey's right. This is only news because the press is probably bored with reporting the primary's for the last several weeks. Like I said, this stuff's been happening for awhile now but someone in the press actually took their heads out of their butts just long enough to "notice" the incident from a couple of days ago and, Bingo, mad scramble to report!!!

I heard an interview this morning with an ex-air traffic controller on the USS Ranger and he was kinda surprised at all the attention because it's happened so often over the years. IMHO, the press has some major ADD issues....whatever shiny object gets their attention at the moment even if it's been there all along!

Re: Russian bomber buzzes USS Nimitz carrier

For some reason the term buzzes just does not seem to match up visually with a four engne Tu 95 Bear bomber. I know that they are pretty fast, but droned by or made one heck of a racket as it went over seems more appropriate. Hope somebody got some nice shots (Pictures) of it as it went over.
