Never underestimate the resourcefulness and endurance of Russia and its people - they have the innate ability to convert a sow's ear into a sturdy, well riveted silk purse (often with no aesthetic value whatsoever, but practical nonetheless) .

MoMo, I will take your advice. I tried to read it years ago, but I could never get thru it. Same with Anna Karenina. I just didn't think happy endings were allowed to happen in Russian lit; after reading some of the works of Solzhenitzyn, Rybakov, and Dostoevsky. Not to mention Rand's We the Living...

I know this a pipe dream, but the "Bear" would make an impressive diecast model in 1:100th scale. A rather awful 1:144th scale rendition of this big bomber was part of the old Atlas series and still pops up on eBay, occasionally.
