As a conservative, the closer I look at this guy, the more liberal he looks. His record is NOT conservative!

Re: Huckabee tax plan raises eyebrows in U.S.

The idea of a flat across-the-board (except for the truly poor ) tax has always appealed to me by virtue of its simplicity. But I have yet to see any evidence that this approach will produce the revenue that the government needs to continue functioning. And what about all of those loopholes that benefit the super rich----will they really close them?

...government needs to continue functioning.

I think this is where they need to start. It's amazing what the country/we have come to believe is need. What one needs to do with his own money always seems to be different from what one needs to do with another's. A flat tax that does not punish the middle class is possible but I believe less money would be collected. OK!

Start with eliminating the IRS and Department of Education (unconstitutional ) Let's revisit limited government.

Re: Huckabee tax plan raises eyebrows in U.S.

Let's revisit limited government.

I agree, we are oppressively taxed now days, trust me there is plenty of money for the roads, schools & whatever else is truly needed, it's just being wasted by Washington on whatever pork barrel project makes them some extra $$$.
Our forefathers would be turning in their graves if they saw what is happening now, we might as well have stayed under English rule at this point.

I can say I like Hauckabee or any Republican or Democrat for that matter, truth is they are all taking this country down the same road to socialism & globalism.
Neither party is for the people by the people & they are not going to change because they don't have to & we don't have a choice!
The country need to be shaken to see any real change, Washington needs to be cleaned out top to bottom & the two party system need to go.
We live in the most free nation on the planet yet we only have two party's to vote for, makes little sense to me in the spirit of what our nation was founded on.
Third & fourth party's at the least are needed, we also need to put real people back in government to represent our communities, not more lawyers & Washington insiders!!!!!

I love my Country so much thats it sad-ens me to see how we the people have lost control over our government.
Yet many Americans no longer know the history of their nation & what freedoms & rights we truly have.
Seems most people don't care anyways they just want to vote for whoever will give them the most free stuff!!!

Sorry for my rant, I try to stay away from political topics because I'm so disenchanted to with it all.

I really try to stress this "there's no such thing as a free lunch" concept with my students too. It's always funny to me how quickly they get it and the other basics of economics, and how somewhere between middle-school and Washington it seems to get lost. Free education, free health care, free food....
No concept of incentives and motives here at all.

What to do?

That's okay, parsig. Some politicians still don't understand why raising the minimum wage leads to layoffs. (Limited pot of money...more to each employee...Oops! That means someone's gotta go...!) Not a difficult concept, but it still escapes them.....
