This Day In History: Opens on Broadway

The Sound of Music, with a score by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, opened on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Mary Martin starred as Maria and Theodore Bikel played the role of Captain Georg von Trapp. The Tony Award winning production ran for 1,443 performances. Productions in London, Japan, and Australia followed, as did the phenomenally successful 1965 film, starring Julie Andrews. What are some of the differences between the stage and screen versions?

Well, Skunky, it appears you are holding a gun to your chin, perhaps someone is trying to get you to pull the trigger?

Mrs "S" must be a short little woman (or is that short little skunk?)

Difference is I had to go to the film version when I was 4 years old. Only good part of the movie for me at that time was the orange juice in a carton my Grandfather got for me. Not sure which was more boring the movie or intermission (Wait a tick the movie was more boring, at least during intermission I got another orange juice in a carton).

Well the SOUND OF MUSIC was the time right before WWII in Austria under Nazi control, so there is your connection to the forum...LOL!

She's always short when she's sitting on her broom.
