Re: Texas stampede:Rangers score 30 runs in historic rout

When the baseball magnates decided to inject more oomph into the game to hype their attendance and TV revenues some time ago, they focused on improving the batter's odds relative to the pitcher's. This was accomplished by lowering the height of the pitcher's mound and unofficially shrinking the size of the strike zone. The AL's adoption of the designated hitter was another step in the same direction. So now any pitcher who consistently struggles through six innings before being relieved has delivered what is regarded as a "quality start" and ERAs of 3.5-4.2 are regarded as pretty good. Accomplish both and you're worth $10 million per year to any team that can afford to pay such salaries-----The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, for example. Add to this the steroid business, which was swept under the rug for so long, and its not surprising that baseball sees so many lopsided scores and so much emphasis on the almighty home run. Just look at the way ESPN recaps the games. Maybe the players need two unions, one for the sluggers and one for the downtrodden pitchers.

I could not believe that score when i saw it this morning either thought my coffee was switched for decaf there for a minute I'vw heard of the roof caving in but that's the whole house Some ERA's are going to heck in a handcart there for sure! The night before Garret Anderson had 10 RBI in a game too.

Wow, I watched the first two innings and switched over to a football talk show. Man I wished I'd stayed on the game. I'll have to watch the highlights on PTI this evening.

Being a life long Orioles Fan (Being born in Baltimore it is impossible to not be a fan.) I've been hearing from folks all day, and all last night, about this score. I never claimed the O's would be any good this year, but MAN does this make one long for the days of Brooks, Boog, Bumblebee and the Blade..... (Not to mention Jim Palmer.)

Anything for a weird life.

I heard that they were even trying to keep from running up the score by stopping on third only to be batted in. Though it'd be a hard pill to swallow, Orioles fans shouldn't beat their team up to much over this one. The stars were just aligned for the Rangers that night.

The baseball gods giveth and they taketh away.

I (masochist that I am) watched the entire game. Rangers deserved the big win, Oriole relief pitchers are probably worst in baseball and maybe in history. What does bother me about the Rangers in this game is that in the 8th inning it was like 25 to 3 and the Ranger batters are taking close pitches and then looking back at the umpire if he calls a strike. Bush league. This was the first game of a double header, come on guys, swing away and get the game over with.
