Some help on ID and other Questions

Guys my Grandfather passed away on 7 Dec 2006 and after finding some old pictures of his and other documents I have a few questions maybe you can answer for me.
1) I found a picture of a B-24 that is under restoration by the IWM. Its silver in color with a shamrock and the name Dugan on it. Anyone know the status of it?
Apparently my Grandfather donated to its restoration, and was a "Sustaining Member of the IWM's American Air Museum". Things I wish I had known prior to his death.
2) Here hopefully is a picture of my grandfather and his Joes by a plane I couldn't ID. Anyone here know what it is? It doesn't quite look like an AT-6 to me. Thanks! - Shawn

Re: Some help on ID and other Questions

Shawn,
I can't help on the ID but I'd like to offer my condolences to you and your family. I lost my grandfather several months ago who had served as an electrician in the Pacific. When we we're going through some of his things we found some great pictures of him playing with monkeys in the Phillipines and some identification plates from various pieces of Japanese equipment.

Re: Some help on ID and other Questions

On September 27, 2002 over 2,000 guests joined former President George Bush (The proper one), The Prince of Wales and His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent for a very special occasion - the rededication of Duxford’s American Air Museum. Of particular interest to President Bush was the Grumman Avenger torpedo bomber, painted to represent the aircraft he flew during his time spent as a naval aviator in the Pacific theatre.

Guests included Founding and Sustaining Members of the AAM as well as veterans from the US 8th and 9th Air Forces, with some from the 78th Fighter Group who were stationed at Duxford during World War II.

The Rededication Ceremony followed months of dedicated and demanding work, which included the removal of the spectacular glass frontage of the American Air Museum to incorporate the SR-71 Blackbird and B-24 Liberator as the Museum’s newest exhibits. The American Air Museum’s B-24 is painted as Colonel ROBERT E. VICKERS JR of the 392nd Bomber Group (He also servered in Strategic Air Command SAC)

Re: Some help on ID and other Questions

Shawn, if I had to guess, I'd say it looks like a SBD with a windshield over the gunner's position. But, that's only a guess...

I'm sorry to hear of your grandfather's death. I wish our elderly war vets would tell us more about their experiences, but I guess that's the way things are sometimes.

Thanks for the info Data. The picture you have in your post is the same one I have in hand addressed to my grandfather. Any idea of what it took to be a sustaining member or get one of those picture thank yous from the IWM?
