Two new 'real' Osprey titles!!

You guys had me going with your 'ersatz' titles earlier!! The enclosed snap shows two new Duel titles from Osprey. Both are excellent titles IMHO and well worth getting though a tad expensive: but you gotta pay for quality. I look forward to the next two which I think are ME 109 v Spitfire and Panther v T-34.

Re: Two new 'real' Osprey titles!!

I read a review on the P-51 vs Fw 190 and the reviewer did not like it at all. Said a lot of the info was incorrect and very little interviews with pilots of either plane.

How does your review compare, Shamrock?

The reviewer did not like one of the planes? If so, which one? Enquiring minds want to know!

I read the review on Amazon. He just did not like the way it was presented. Not enough interviews with the pilots of each since it is titled as p-51 vs fw 190 d. Also, said that P-51's were more likely to come in contact with Bf 190G's & K's since their mission was to protect the Fw's whose primary mission was the bombers.

Re: Two new 'real' Osprey titles!!

P-51 vs Fw 190 is a little light on German pilot perspectives. It has some nice artwork showing both cockpits with controls/instruments identified. You won't find anything new in the way of photos or descriptions, but it does try to give a little background and set the stage for the duel, including aircraft development, performance, pilot training, equipment, overall tactical situation, and the condition the opposing forces were in at the time. It's 80 pages long and probably needs about 20 more pages to make it worth $17.95. Fortunately Amazon sells it for $12.21.

Re: Two new 'real' Osprey titles!!

As Lee G says another 20 pages would not have gone amiss! I paid €19.20 which is fair whack of money for an 80 page book. A hard back book on Mustangs or MEs could be bought for that usually at a remaindered price. Having said all that and not being an expert on correct or incorrect data mentioned by a reviewer I still feel that Osprey have got it right with this series. The artwork and painting is superb with detailed armament and cockit detail. Osprey are the benchmark for aviation writing that appeals to the 'general' aviation market with specific aircraft, era, or squadron interest. Anyone looking for a much more detailed breakdown of the respective aircraft should look elsewhere IMHO.

All of the above comments could be applied to the Osprey Duel Sherman Firefly v Tiger (inserting armour data instead of aircraft data).

Will I buy the next releases? Yes and maybe some of the naval titles as well!!
