Re: Bratislave air show mid air

Jepp, remember these things dont go fast. Might be the reason that so many WW I pilots had a lot of crashes, if they had flown a WW II plane they would only had one.

Also see the video.

"The main feature was Flying circus from Czech republic. During their display two airplanes collided. Fokker Dr.I clipped the tail of Nieuport 17. (Both airplaned were ultralight replicas some 20 percent smaller). Nieuport went into steep dive and crashed straight into the ground. Amazingly, pilot survived with broken arm and leg and concussion. Dreidecker was able to land safely. Pilots were probably blinded by the sun, which was directly in front.

Re: Bratislave air show mid air

Geez,
That Red Baron Fokker Came in a little fast it looks like...Either that or the Nieuport cut in front of him at the last second.
Very lucky to be alive too.
Plane was not that high off the ground so that's a good thing for him.
I don't know French but how is the pilot doing ??
How mad did he get hurt ?

Re: Bratislave air show mid air

That is amazing! I wonder if the Czech Aviation Authority will mandate airbags and TCAS for all biplanes now?

Thanks for posting that, Planebeach. Hope the Frenchman is, or will be, ok.

Re: Bratislave air show mid air

I'm not really a wealth of knowledge when it comes to WWI airplanes but those are replicas right?

Re: Bratislave air show mid air

Yes most of them are Replicas.
They still have few orig WWI fighter planes like a Sopwith Camel that is in a museum.
The Fokker Dr.1's are all replicas....There's not even one Fokker Dr.1 that is a orig.. Red Baron's Dr.1 was in a museum before WWII and after the war it was destroyed in bombings.
