P40 Heaven.

Had to post this one,

I was at Duxford for the Legends show aaaaaaaaaannnnnddd,

I got to see the Pearl P40 fly at last!! !!!!

I guess you could say I am delighted.

What a beauty , heck even the warbird pilots were impressed when they saw it.

That plane looks so cool, it does not need a sharks mouth painting on, this bird actually looks like a shark of the air!
The engine sound and the look of it puts it top of my list above Mustangs Spitfires anything!
Guys this bird is just

Awesome

There was also a P40N so I was just so excited , almost like being a kid again.
Heck, I even bought an iced soda pop to cool me down, (at show prices it was an event in itself to see a Yorkshireman part with that kind of money).

I shall post piccies soon.

btw way how about this for a list of birds at the show,

9x Spitfires,
JU52, Jungman and Me 108.
Bearcat, Wildcat, Hellcat, and Corsair,
A26 and B25 x2.
2x P40 and the P36,
3x B17 (only 2 flying).
Dakota, x3,
Stearmans with wingwalkers x 5 , yes 5.
Beech Staggerwing, Dragon Rapides.
Yak 3, Bouchon 109.
Pre war Nimrod and Hind,
3x Hurricanes.
Plus a few more. oh yes a P39.
Mustangs around 6 or 7 of those , one which suffered an complete engine failure on finals and only just made it onto the airfield after clearing the motorway.
Unfortunately in order to clear the motorway the pilot had to lift the plane and thus lost airspeed and had to land very heavily on the edge of the airstrip bounce and then come to rest on the strip.
Luckily the prop stayed clear of the ground although the undercarriage collapsed on the right wing.
The happy part is that the pilot was uninjured.
It was a superb piece of airmanship to get that bird safely down and be able to walk away unharmed. I take my hat off to the guy.

Piccies to follow.

God Bless America.

Not to Hi-Jack the thread, Jim; but save opening a new one............

Here's the incident you spoke of, at the bottom-end of your initial-post.
My mate Gary, also saw the incident, but was the other-end of the Airfield.... so not in detail.

Here's some pix off the 'net (I'll try & credit those who took 'em)

STARMAN 352; suggest you look away........ NOW !!!!!!!!!!!

"Miss-Helen" ACTUALLY FLEW WITH the 352nd F.G. during WW.II, before being sold-on to Sweden.

Like you said Jim, EVERYONE says the pilot's skill was amazing & saved this (prob' ?) ONLY remaining ACTUAL 8th A.F. P.51 still flying.

Note the Port-Wheel in 'Zoomers' shot !!!!!!!!!!!!

pix are..... R.J.Laker - 'Zoomer' (the 'action'-landing-shot) - & 'Friends of T.F.C.'

Re: P40 Heaven.

Wow, that second pic is amazing. Glad all ended as well as it did for pilot and plane.

Jim - I'm jealous man! I went to Chino last year expecting to see that P-40B before it left for the UK. Just missed it by a few days.

Re: P40 Heaven.

Nice shot Jim! There's an Invader that's being restored up the road from me that I just might see if I can help with (not that I know anything about such things!)

Re: P40 Heaven.

The photos are not so good , sorry about that .
I could not see anything in the frame when I took these.
Time to invest a new camera, this one runs off steam power I think.
