Ya just park your chairs there and whatever else you bring. Stroll around for a while and then take a break in the shade.

You lucky guys, have fun.

Re: Thunder Over Michigan 2008

Tomorrow is the day!! I will see the other fellow forum members at the show. I will be wearing my Iron Maiden "Aces High" shirt (my former avatar of Eddie in the cockpit of a Spitfire) and a Yankees hat. I don't imagine there will be anyone else wearing that. Hope to see some of you there!

Re: Thunder Over Michigan 2008

I'll be wearing a white T-shirt with the MH II logo on front and back, also a P-51 on the front and a 3-view drawing of a Spad XIII on the back. I'll be there tomorrow.

Re: Thunder Over Michigan 2008

So, other than parsig mentioning hanging out under the wing of the B-52, no one's interested in settin' up a place and time to get together?

Under the wing of the B-52 sounds good to me.

Re: Thunder Over Michigan 2008

Thunder Show was another success. Met and talked with brunowbe for a few minutes (nice to meet you). Thanks for standing me up Captain Eddie.

It's ok, I still had a little fun.

Found a good deal on the BBI SBD for $32 and took some nice shots of the planes although most on the ground as I'm no expert.
Neat Paratrooper jump from a Dakota. Never had seen anything like that. Mig-21 that did not get into the air that I saw, maybe Sunday.
The 109 and a Hurricane made it but not the Lancaster. No P-38, P-40 (sorry Jim), or Spitfire sadly but 2 nice Wildcats and Tarheel Hal flew. A good day.

Nap time now.
Will post a few shots later.

Re: Thunder Over Michigan 2008

Just got back and it was a nice show. First the disappointments were already listed above by Parsig, so I don't need to go into them as I was disappointed in the lack of Spits, P 40s, and Corsairs. It was also nice meeting a fellow member and putting a face to the username Parsig9.

The show was pretty good. It didn't seem like they had as many planes flying as in 2006, but what they had were good. The 109 stole the show for me again (P 51B Old Crow was a very close second). One of my highlights was getting to meet and talk with R. Lee Ermey of "Full Metal Jacket" and "Mail Call" fame. The Gunney is a very approachable and nice fellow. My dad and I got our picture taken with him and a couple of autographs. I also met and talked with one of the Tuskegee Airmen (however I have forgotten his name). While talking with him I asked him which of the aircraft were his favorite to fly; P 40, P 47, or the P 51. His answer was quite good. He said he would have to choose the P 51. He said the P 47 could take a lot of the abuse, but the P 51 was his choice because if you got into trouble with the enemy, you could just fly away faster than they could chase you. He said that with a chuckle and we then shook hands and I thanked him for all of his and the Tuskegee Airmen's service to our country. I've got a ton of pics and will post them in the next few days. The land battles were pretty nice and it was funny watching the crowd get startled and jump when the tanks/artillery pieces began firing their main armament. A good day was had by all and the weather was fantastic.
