Re: Meeting at Gathering of Mustangs

I look forward to more posts and PICS!

Unfortunately I am not that savy with computers, but I am sure others from here attending the show will post lots of pics!

Re: Meeting at Gathering of Mustangs

Just got back from the show. Whew, what a drive. Nice to meet Old Crow and Captain Eddie and Jim...forget who else. Interesting being able to put faces with names now. I had my MH shirt on and besides the guys I met at Glacier Girl I bumped into a handful of others who recognized the shirt logo and said hello or made a comment about having seen our site. One such instance was Dave Aiken. I looked over all his stuff and talked with him for a few minutes. What a great guy! The show was good and packed. 300,000 people would not surprise me a bit. I think 150,000 left when the misc jets including the Thunderbirds were done. I saw the Mynarski Lanc before too Captain Eddie and went through but this was the first time I'd seen it fly. Got some good pics but nothing awesome. Loved those Allison engines of the P-38 too. What a perrrrrrrr. As far as models, none for me. I got a sweet GML Robin Olds poster and a nice T-shirt. Did see a Corgi St. Malo Stuka for sale but for $45 and Aikens had all the Dragon Mustangs( not GG) including several BBD for $29.99. Thought that was fair. Anybody see the $900 cheapo (IMHO) leather jackets? Holy I about passed out.

Don't forget the targets are my airfields, Leigh-Mallory, and you're not getting fifty, you're not even getting ten.

Re: Meeting at Gathering of Mustangs

Hey parsig,
If you mean the Eastman flight jackets they are not considered cheapo at all. Check out the "acme depot" A2 jacket section on the web. Eastmans are one of only a couple companies that do exact reproductions of A2 jackets and they are very high quality. Too rich for my blood- I "settled" for a Flight Suits Historical A2 for about half the price which I love. Anybody see the guys dressed all up in WWII combat gear complete with weapons? Very cool. Best airshow I've ever been to, bar none. Also looked for your T-shirt but missed you somehow. I was at Glacier Girl at about 10:30. Maybe next time.

Re: Meeting at Gathering of Mustangs

I thought they might be repro jackets but I looked them over pretty good and touched plenty and I still say you must be paying for the ideaof it more than anything. US wings has about the same thing for 1/2. It's no big deal really. I know airshows are no place for bargains. The $55 Witty Thunderbirds F-16 showed me that.

Re: Meeting at Gathering of Mustangs

Well, I just got back from the final day (sniff, sniff ). WHAT a show! Migmauler is correct...best airshow I've ever been to, bar none!

Spent most of today in and around the Veteran's tent today, getting more autographs. I'd have loved to see the show and the airplanes again, but felt getting autographs was the best use of my time, as I'd done a lot of viewing and such before. Went all four days. Got to sit in some tents when veterans talked of their experiences. Roscoe Brown was especially articulate and interesting. The last veteran I listened to was Bill Getz. He was great! He started out as a bomber pilot of B-24's, flew 31 missions, then transitioned to the P-51. Very interesting hearing his stories and take on the airwar. Wished I owned a video camera!
