Wings Over the Wine Country 2007 -- this weekend

Anyone going?

I'll probably go on Saturday and go nuts with the camera.... I went to this show last year and it is really one of the best in the greater Bay Area that I've seen at least.

Always something in the air -- ends with lots of warbirds up at once (11 last year).... There will be a Bearcat and Skyraider there this year for the Heritage Flights, neither of which I've seen fly before, so that's worth it alone. And a couple Mustangs I've not seen before either, such as Speedball. F-16 and F-18 demos, too... and lots of stunt acts. It's not cheap, $15 plus parking "donations" and $7 hotdogs... but it was worth it last year.

For info:

Oh, and they now have an F-14 that you can supposedly sit in, too.....

Re: Wings Over the Wine Country 2007 -- this weekend

I did go yesterday and it was a great show! (but very hot, and I had an annoying guy next to me who kept getting upset when I stood up to take pictures -- I mean, don't get a spot in the front on the flight line if you want to sit on your arse all day! Just about everyone was standing, and just about everyone on the flight line had cameras. I offered to send him a link to download the pics, that at least quieted him -- though he didn't take me up on it. I can understand being annoyed by photographers, but don't sit in the middle of 'em and complain...)

I took about 800 shots (first show with a new camera that shoots like a machinegun...)

I've taken a quick scan of 'em and there are so pretty cool ones... the highlight of the show for me was the suprise appearance of a P-38! I've never seen one in the air, it wasn't on the program, it just decided to show up the night before the show and take part in the fun!

It's not named, far as I can tell -- it's owned by the guy who owns Behr paints... what a thrill it was too see and hear it!

Also saw an F-18 superbug demo for the first time, and a P-40 for the first time... and lots of P-51s, a yak-9, bearcat, and b-25 "old glory"... Plus the always fun U-2 demo, Galaxy demo, and F-16 demo.... good times!

Too bad the Skyraider didn't fly, as was advertised... don't know why. Maybe next year!

(or watch, it will fly today!)

Show is a photog's dream (other than the blazing sun and it's show center position)... the warbirds all go up at once and do like 4 or 5 circuits of the field with all of them doing solo flybys down the flightline.... I think 10 were up at once this year.

It's going to be a while until I can go through the pics and post 'em, but here's a teaser -- if you're close enough to get there today: Go!

(BTW the museum recently took delivery of a vintage WWII P-40 with two japanese kills that is being restored -- not sure if to flight status, but I think so. that was on static display, too.)
