Jim Leroy Crashes at airshow *Updated*

I'm sure all of you heard the news about Jim Leroy's accident and my thoughts and prayers are with his family. Was anyone else there today? I was actually walking back towards where he crashed when it happened and didn't see what happened but I did get these photos.

Re: Jim Leroy

I heard about this one as well....Another good pilot...... My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
I remember Jim 2yrs years ago on July 10,2005 he flew with another group called "Masters of Disasters" and both of the pilots Jimmy Franklin and Bobby Younkin were killed Jim's plane was the only one that made it that day.
This is a picture of Jim's plane just as it hit the end of the runway. It looks like he just didn't pull up in time coming out of a dive. The plane was one of two making loop-the-loops with smoke trailing as part of Dayton's air show. It slammed into the runway across a field and caught fire.
Jim is also a former US Marine..

Re: Jim Leroy Crashes at airshow

Thanks for posting the video. Jim really was a great pilot I was looking forward to seeing his Tin stix of dynamite show with Yurgis Kairys in September it was the best non-military show I'd seen.

Re: Jim Leroy Crashes at airshow

Very sad---I saw Jim LeRoy fly almost every year for the past couple of years (including just a few weeks ago), and saw Bobby Younkin and Jimmy Franklin a few times too.

Re: Jim Leroy Crashes at airshow *Updated*

The whole "loops" thing was obviously nonsense. Indeed, a tremendous tragedy. Looks like the two aircraft were mirroring each other, and Leroy miscalculated his sink rate during the snap rolls (as part of the "Mary's Lamb" maneuver?). The images serve as a powerful reminder of the risks these guys take at every show.
